Isadora V It touched my heart. One of the best movies I've ever watched. If you haven't watched it, I strongly urge you to watch it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Um dos melhores filmes que eu já vi. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Mano is a regular adolescent living in the wealthier quarters of Brazil. His life takes a difficult turn when his father Horácio leaves the family for another man. A family torn apart and the fear of people at his school finding out about Horácio's homosexuality are only a few things that cause Mano turmoil. School is a constant battleground over popularity and acceptance by a merciless group of peers, sexuality and uncertainty about the future loom over every decision and thought. "As Melhores Coisas do Mundo" is a refreshingly intelligent take on the high school drama genre. Francisco Miquez portrays Mano like a true professional and Luiz Bolognesi's script tackles many current themes boldly. The film does seem to be going into a few directions too many during its 100 minute run, making it feel a bit unfocused. Themes of growing up, sexuality, divorce, suicide and intolerance are all tackled but often left without proper analysis. The most notable theme among many is the way modern information culture, which makes freedom and openness accessible to all, can in fact be used to enforce intolerance and limited world views. In Mano's school every piece of intolerant gossip is instantly spread through cell phones and internet blogs, bullying is easy and shifts in social status among the students are instantaneous. Engaging and ambitious, "As Melhores Coisas do Mundo" manages to capture the perilous existence of a teenager potently, even if it seems at times to leave many of its most interesting thoughts hanging in the air, unfinished. Overall it does succeed well in making its most underscored statement about the destructive force of closed community and an individual's potential of opposing that force. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member O melhor drama adolescente desde, sei lá, Os Clube dos Cinco. Onde quer que esteja, o John Hughes deve estar orgulhoso. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Typical plot, even so it was a good movie.
