isla s This is a quirky, fairly amusing watch. The characters are good and it has a bit of a comic book type feel - its somewhat imaginative I suppose. I'm not much keen on Sarah Silverman but that can't be helped. While the plot is unlikely, its a fairly easy and entertaining watch, so I suppsoe I'd give it a 7 out of 10 rating for the pure entertainment value. Its worth a watch if your wanting a an amusing watch, even though there are some cheesy and cliche aspects but then that kind of accounts for some of its humour - I wouldn't say its the sort of film that takes itself too seriously, to put it that way. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Ashby tries to juggle a lot of things, even though it is successful in some of them, at the end it just feels like any other generic feel good film but with some bad editing and camera work. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Just not worth the time Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member I am not usually a "dark comedy" person but I thought this movie was terrific...on the surface the plot is a bit silly but the actors were so great they made me believe all of it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review corkball I guess Rourke's hitman is there to provide the father figure the boy doesn't have... or something... and the boy provides the hitman with a conscience? I THINK that is the point. Anyway to get there, you have to plow through all the Hollywood tropes - absent father, quirky girlfriend, brain tumor for tears, hitman for color (and boy, for SURE this movie would be unwatchable without Mickey Rourke). Having said all that, 'Ashby' comes off as a bit of a quiet character study which is actually quite enjoyable if you give it a chance. A bit like Harold and Maude. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Enjoyed. Acting and dialogue top notch. Loved Mickey Roarke, always have ;-) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Dennis Harvey Variety Mickey Rourke is a grizzled ex-CIA assassin improbably mentoring Nat Wolff's misfit teen in this lukewarm genre jumble. Sep 27, 2015 Full Review Chris Nashawaty Entertainment Weekly Folks buying a ticket to Ashby hoping to see a film about the late-great director of Being There and Harold and Maude are about to be sorely disappointed. So is everyone else. Rated: C- Sep 25, 2015 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times It's a quirky life-lessons setup that, while occasionally earning deadpan laughs, tries for but never achieves Wes Anderson's patented mixture of the archly witty and the sneakily emotional.
