C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore Asylum Blackout is an especially effective little horror-thriller that has plenty of psychological terror in store for its viewers. Rated: 4/5 May 7, 2019 Full Review Scott Weinberg FEARnet Precisely what the title implies, but it does get pretty rough. Rated: 3.5/5 May 8, 2012 Full Review Brent Simon Shockya.com A skillfully cobbled together little calling card of a film. If in the end it's a bit short on convincing payoff, its atmospheric spell should generally satisfy genre fans, and also augur good things for most involved. Rated: B- May 5, 2012 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a seriously oppressive piece of work. Rated: 2/4 Sep 23, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews

MainstreamHorrorFansAreDumb A24 may have (recently) taken the title for producing the best horror films, but IFC held that title for about two decades prior to A24 blowing up. While both offer extremely well-crafted original, intelligent, thought-provoking horror, the main difference is that IFCs films have always felt more subtlety cerebral compared to A24s decapitation-by-means-of-telephone-pole times of intensity. Asylum Blackout has all the key IFC-style horror elements and builds perfectly with the tension as the events kick off, but it is definitely one of their more relentless works, with not much room to breathe. And as per usual, its a pretty safe bet that all the negative reviews come from people that are most likely fans of horror movies like Annabelle, Saw 27, and the 100 or so exorcism/possession films of the mid- to late-00s Never being fans of having to think too much, they will always prefer 85 mins worth of interchangeable jump scares and shots of the killer/ghost/monster walking BEHIND the characters, WHERE THEY CANT SEE. Theyve gone ahead and started labeling these films (like House of the Devil, Would You Rather?, Coherence, and Await Further Instructions) as slow burns Because concepts like character development and story lead to discomfort and frustration, while phrases like From the Producers of Friday the 13th 2009 and The Child Support Hearing of Chucky bring excitement and promise Awesome movie. Mainstream horror fans are dumb. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/20/23 Full Review harrison r Many internal inconsistencies. Creepy, moderately creative plot w/no satisfying resolution. S. Craig Zahler's worst. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member These psychos are just waiting on the other side of the serving line glass when the power goes out. 4 band mates / Cooks for the asylum are left to fend for their lives. And what isn't particularly deep is pretty wack...better than expected. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Psychological Horror tends to go over a lot of heads. And by the underappreciated reviews, this one did as well. The ending of The Incident, aka Asylum Blackout, is sure to divide the audience. But those that are fans of the genre will really appreciate the sparse yet effective dread that this film brings. An underrated gem of madness and doom. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/26/21 Full Review Audience Member Its definitely a yes for the genre fans. Has to have stomach, though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Andy J Brutal and maintains interest. Would have benefited from a bit more character development and somewhat weird in parts.
