Tim Cogshell Boxoffice Magazine A light urban coming-of-age dramedy where the veneer may be darkly intriguing, but the finish is pure homily, of the sort where lessons are learned and dreams do come true. Rated: 3/5 May 6, 2006 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Robinson's film is a cut above the rest, seeming simultaneously wise beyond its years and electrically, youthfully playful. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 8, 2006 Full Review Richard Roeper Ebert & Roeper Too predictable. Apr 3, 2006 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Director Chris Robinson directs the film with an easygoing, well-paced and authentic feeling that avoids drama and histrionics. Rated: 2.5/4.0 Sep 2, 2020 Full Review Cole Smithey ColeSmithey.com Amateur camera work and conspicuous plotting reduce the film's regional sensibilities to sleep-inducing pap. Rated: D Apr 20, 2009 Full Review Kam Williams AALBC.com A tip of the cap to Tip Harris and Lauren London for it is their chemistry and charm which allows one to believe in their tenderhearted romance in an atmosphere where women are regarded as objects and affectionately called 'bitches' and 'hos.' Audience Member This had so much potential, but there's just too much wrong with it. It's wayy to unrealistic. There shoulda been better individual character development Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/21 Full Review Audience Member It's really a shame that T.I. didn't go on to go star in more movies, because he's a shockingly good actor that has way more talent than you'd except. He shows this off in ATL, a coming of age movie set in Atlanta (of course), backed by a 00's hip-hop soundtrack and interesting characters. It mixes teen relationships, financial problems, and drug issues together with cool effectiveness, and Lauren London is as pretty as ever. The tone can get a little uneven and the format is familiar, but at least there isn't a cliche drive-by scene, am I right? Anyways, ATL isn't something to skip, and it's a great ghetto coming of age story that thankfully doesn't dwell on the ghetto hardships and moves on to show how these people actually live and have fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Only saw part of it for a few minutes I have seen better movies there where funny moments Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/11/18 Full Review Audience Member One of my favorites movies to watch over and over. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Just watched this and really enjoyed it. Great story of young African-American life, with a great cast to bring it to life. The direction and cinematography also stick out. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Good movie. All the characters are likable. Enjoyed it although some of the plot didn't make sense to me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
