jona i A unique, insightful look at a world too often overlooked Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Um lindo curta-documentário, necessário e inclusivo, tenho a impressão que já conhecia a história de Terry, deficiente auditivo que sofria bullying e cometeu suicídio, apesar desse fato trágico o documentário de uma mensagem muito bonita de superação, inclusão e respeito, bom termos contato com essas realidades especiais, que deveriam ser cotidianas, bom estar em notoriedade, frente ao Oscar, não foi vencedor, mas achei perfeito, comovente e inspirador... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review renaldo d Good short film, the soba soundtrack is what most connects us with the story Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I gave this movie "Audible" 4 and a half stars since Nyle DiMarco actually needs two leading stars to be interviewed. Nyle shouldn't choose just one male student to be interviewed, but also a black Deaf girl in Maryland Deaf School, as well! As far as I'm concerned, everything revolves around Amaree and his white deaf girlfriend. I kept seeing Deaf black men hanging out with white girlfriends from Deaf U, and now this. I'm trying to figure out why I kept seeing this shit again. "Audible" and "Deaf U" misled me to believe that Deaf black men in real life don't like the idea of dating Deaf Black women. This is the white male gaze at its finest. I felt like your message still says that Black Deaf Girls are not as priceless and unworthy of attention and love from black men as their white counterparts. I'm not disturbed or offended by Amaree's decision on an interracial relationship. Nyle should have shown more scenes with Amaree being around Black Deaf girls. Why? We still do not know what his deal with Deaf Black girls. On top of that, "Audible" is too short for 37 minutes. I wish the film "Audible" had more time, instead of 37 minutes. That could be 3 long episodes or 5 episodes, like Deaf U. It's too canned and superficial! It is not enough time to bring Black Deaf Women on the Netflix platform. All I see is Amaree's mother in the interview, just like I saw Dequean's mother in Deaf U. I'm glad "Audible" shows black churches and the black community in Amaree's father's church. Still, there is no ASL interpreter at his father's church, too. So, Amaree doesn't really know what his father is saying in his church. That doesn't show a bunch of deaf black women in that church. I don't see any deaf black girls interviewed and asked her how they feel about Amaree. Are they in love with Amaree? You still don't see that in this film! I only saw a 4-second scene of deaf black girls loudly cheering and encouraging the football team to win the homecoming game. They didn't even get their chance to express themselves in ASL because it was really short-lived when they began to sign their hands. The cameras briefly distanced themselves from them to draw attention to Amaree instead. That's why I gave "Audible" 4 and a half, but I could've given it a three. Three is a better number because it successfully shows that the Maryland Deaf School positively portrays LGBTQIA students in cheerleading and skirting at the football field. Even the heterosexual male students wear dresses to support Teddy because of the suicide incident. I mean, how many Deaf schools have shown their support for someone who killed himself based on sexual orientation and gender identity? It's a rare sight to look at! That's why I'm pleased to give the half of 4 stars instead of 3 'cause Deaf U fails to put the spotlight on LGBTQIA people of color in 2020 when it is released on Netflix. Deaf U had 2 white deaf lesbians. Maryland Deaf School represents positive changes for this young generation in 2021! From 2007 until 2011, I graduated from Missouri Deaf School. Teenage boys and I were not allowed to wear dresses for the cheer band. Our adult staff neither recognize nor respect the LGBTQIA students at our school. They're a long way from accepting and being receptive to having boys in skirts. They are not entirely ready for students with any type of sexual orientation since my high school days were rigorous, closeted, or homophobic. You know how conservative Missouri has become during my time in high school. Perhaps my school has evolved in 2021, yet they are extremely slow in accepting and open-mindedness. They do not want to fully acknowledge it on short notice and still resistant to the changing culture on this campus. But ironically, we allow boys on the cheerleading team, so they don't have any problems with men cheering with pompoms. It's just a "skirt" you're not supposed to use. Haven't seen them in a dress! That's why I envied Maryland Deaf School in 2021 because they're not afraid to let the boys applaud and cheer in skirts with pompoms. I wish I had their confidence back in my high school days because I was too ashamed to wear dresses. "Audible" was a love letter to me when I was growing up.
