Deborah Young The Hollywood Reporter 09/25/2017
The ending is left deliberately, unsatisfyingly ambiguous, but whatever her fate may be, in or out of the system, it doesn't matter that much to the viewer. Go to Full Review

Right up to the slightly unsatisfying ending, "Ava" is both a complex character portrait and a heartsore farewell to the ephemeral images that will be among the last she sees. Go to Full Review
Wendy Ide Screen International 05/19/2017
Stylistic impact notwithstanding, the film is unbalanced by aimless plotting and queasy questions about the sexualisation of a vulnerable child protagonist. Go to Full Review

Fascinating and at times, sensual, Ava is always enigmatic but perhaps a little disappointing in its conclusion... [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Strikingly crafted, this concise drama is as pristine on the aesthetic surface as it is infuriating in the needless conflicts it astutely depicts. Go to Full Review

Director and writer Léa Mysius' story plays out almost as calmly as the serene beach resort it is set in. Go to Full Review

08/23/2020 Call it atomic blonde part deux. I think no more assassin movies is the best move for this leading lady. Zero dark dope. This disaster? . Notice how her moves happen before she is attacked. Symbolic of poor strength etc. Sorry , although I believe that women can be action hero's. Neither this nor atomic blonde come close. In fact they are both a disgrace to assassin movies. If women want to be i assassin movies at least do some pull ups. Even with the suspension of disbelief the fighting is hard to believe. Well at least it nominally better than atomic blonde, and that got a sequel, so I think it's fair to say, we are all screwed See more 08/10/2020 Horrible dialoges and strange film in total See more 10/05/2018 One of the most uninteresting coming of age movies i have ever watched. It steals ideas and old metaphors from many well known places but doesnt manage to make sth out of it. It destroys its own tone and puts it into a soup of what might look deep or philosophical but is not at all. By trying so hard to find poetic metaphors and pictures it doesnt build up any real poetry. Worst thing for a movie which still about telling a conventional aimed to a linear end story is: you dont care about any of those one dimensional characters. See more Read all reviews
