The ideas behind the story might make you think a little, but the way it's told makes Awake a dreary disappointment.

Pola E One of the most stressful cinematic experiences. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Daniel B The one interesting premise this movie brings, and yet it couldn't deliver on that. What this movie lacks in character development, acting and story. It provides some interesting shots where it's clear the one in control of cinematography, wants to let the spectacul tell the story. That doesn't change how shallow this movie comes across, feeling more like an interesting short film idea than the waste this movie turns out being. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/24 Full Review debbie f It was OK....but it had the typical stupid stuff in every movie seems to do and viewers are tired of seeing it. For example, it wasn't clear what the cause of the world wide malfunction was. The little girl is the most important person in the world after the event, we don't know how long the after affects of the event had been going on ....it seems like for just one day. But it had to have been much longer since they were looking for a cure. The little girl potentially holds the cure...but during a scene she gets upset and runs off and mom just lets her go. Actually mom didn't even notice. She doesn't run after her or even go looking for her. She just leaves her unattended for a long period of time. The girl with the cure is just allowed to run off and stay gone. For some ridiculous reason, the little girl goes back to the car and falls asleep in it...and it is then stolen. OF COURSE. But they were in a huge library...a library that you know has a couple couches somewhere. What upset her was for some reason mom tried to teach her daughter how to shoot a gun in the library...a gun the little girl could barely hold up it's so heavy for her. Mom thinks she will learn to be a dead shot in a matter of seconds??? Frustrated that her daughter won't shoot it, mom then takes it from her and fires off a round IN the library...could there be someone on the other side of the books she shot at from 20 feet away? It was a mish mash of scenes that were poorly stitched together. Moms acting was overdone, the son was annoying... the little girl was actually pretty good. And there's no way the red headed grandmother was related to any of them. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/07/24 Full Review rick d The last half hour is just horrendous. How does this even get made, Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/06/24 Full Review WWG1WGA Not your typical Armageddon movie and that's awesome. The action starts quick but you have to wait for answers. If you didn't understand this movie or it's end then you don't have patience and shouldn't criticize. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Hanifa i think it was really intense and emotional . brilliant writing and amazing camera shots jill is a great mum and really gritty at the same time i constantly felt for Matilda and Noah and Jill. a nightmare filled reality from something so simple and ingrained but so complex. sleep or lack of it i thought it would be bit longer as the build up was a bit abrupt. i wanted more of a confrontation kinda thing it still worked it was really painful what they had do to jill but the reluctance and the acting really sold it, gotta make tough choices in a tough world i think the characters acted great! Peter Debruge Variety For audiences bored by what amounts to a slow-burn road trip, it's all too easy to close your eyes and look for something more exciting in your dreams. Jun 11, 2021 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews The promise of an intriguing premise results in expectations that the film, which rarely diverges from the familiar feel of a post-apocalyptic road movie, is unable to capture. Rated: 2/4 Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Monica Castillo RogerEbert.com Awake has just enough scares and strangeness, plus a sense of dread and paranoia, to make its horror creepy and enjoyable. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 9, 2021 Full Review Charles Hartford But Why Tho? A Geek Community Awake delivers a decent tale that starts far stronger than it ends. While its unique premise initially helps present something different, it quickly comes to get in its own way. Rated: 5/10 Jan 16, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “Awake” constantly teases us with its interesting ideas and you stick with it even through the rough patches in hopes of a satisfying payoff. Unfortunately the payoff never comes. Rated: 2/5 Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Aaron Neuwirth We Live Entertainment Even as genre fare, the film rarely finds ways to ramp up the tensions.
