Tara Brady Irish Times The propensity for magic recall several Studio Ghibli classics, particularly My Neighbour Totoro and The Red Turtle. A boy and a little bird are on a journey across a strange island trying to get back home - just spectacular. Jun 1, 2021 Full Review Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut A marvellous animated film about a boy traveling alone, from a Latvian multi-media auteur. Plenty to enjoy, for children and adults alike. Rated: 4/5 Feb 18, 2021 Full Review Ryan Silberstein MovieJawn Told without dialogue, this simple story is capably told through image alone. The effect feels like...an extended short film or a beautifully rendered video game. Feb 1, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

David R Interesting animated film which is almost a silent movie because it has no dialogue. It is sort of an adventure tale of a young boy who parachutes onto a strange island and is followed by a giant who pursues him. He be friends a small fledgling bird, and they go on a journey to the far end of the island where perhaps civilization exists riding a motorcycle and a map mysteriously left for him. It is very mysterious and self interpretative. Do not expect anything to be spelled out for you. You might be greatly disappointed if you expect a movie to have a full explanation. At times the animation looks very good, and other times it has a very unfinished quality to it like computer game graphics. Characters have solid blocks of color with very little shading or details. It is worth seeing but it is probably not for everyone. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Keitorin H haunting and stunning Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Cindy H i understand one person made the entire movie and kudos to that, but i honestly found this movie boring. it was so slow, especially the beginning. i really had to force myself to finish this. theres no talking in the movie so maybe that had to do with why I don't like it. idk it wasn't for me, but lots of others like it Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/21/22 Full Review spencer p Even if the execution is somewhat lacking, this one-filmmaker, no-dialogue animated wonder is an emotionally evocative and often visually stunning journey on independent willpower. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Beverly D What an enchanting and mysterious little movie. A boy awakens to find himself in a strange place. He finds objects that help him on his journey and along the way he meets other creatures. Some are helpful, but one is very scary. There is not one word of dialogue, but I found myself unable to look away. Where is he from? Where is he going? It doesn't matter, I think I could watch this movie over and over. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/02/21 Full Review lesley m The Boy, our protagonist, journeys across an island to a harbour. It is beautiful, dreamlike, exciting. No character development. No dialog so you can't quote from it, and naturally it fails the The Bechdel test. No sex, no violence. I watched it twice on Rakuten, once in the evening and during the next day. Lovely! BTW ; on Rotten Tomatoes, some other reviews have confused 'Away' an animation by Gints Zilbalodis with some other movie; there were NO astronauts in Away by Gints Zilbalodis and no crying either.
