On a plane bound for South America, the son of a mobster travels under the protection of henchmen who learn in-flight that their boss is dead. Also on the flight are weary war pilot Bill Lonagan (Robert Ryan), prostitute Rena (Anita Ekberg), Jud Ellis (Gene Barry) and his fiancée, Louise (Phyllis Kirk), and a convicted murderer (Rod Steiger) who's bound for his execution. After a storm forces the plane down in a jungle, the passengers turn against one another in their struggle to survive.

This 1956 remake of the far superior "Five Came Back" had the same director (John Farrow) and lifted heavily from the original script. What it left behind was the connection and depth of the characters. What we are left with are archetypes, a lack of any real suspense or character development. The cast tries, but they really don't have anything to work with. If you have not seen either film, start here first.

The story has lots of frayed portions, but this picture still holds together. Most intriguing are the performances from the three leads, Robert Ryan, Anita Ekberg and Rod Steiger.

Decent adventure tale a about a a group of survivors of a plane crash in South America. Sadly it does not devolve into an "Alive" scenario, but it's still pretty good. John Farrow directs and Robert Ryan, Anita Ekberg and Rod Steiger are among the survivors.
