Heung Wing has been sensitive to paranormal activity and keeps seeing ghosts since he was a kid, which is called having "Yin Yang" eyes. To avoid being bothered by the ghosts, he pretends to be ignorant even though he knew their existence. When he gets older, he escapes from Hong Kong to Canada because of his miserable childhood. One day, Heung Wing has been told that his mother is in coma by committing suicide, which forces him to return back to Hong Kong. When he goes back to the old home, everything looks strange and unfamiliar to him. What's more horrifying is, a series of suicide cases happen in his neighborhood, and ghosts start to appear in front of him again. The situation is deteriorating beyond his imagination....

It’s great to be reminded what a fine actor Bai is, as she draws on the intense carnality that’s always been a bit of a trademark but adds something tragic and deranged to the mix. Go to Full Review

A daring effort for what it’s worth, Back Home is an eerie occult horror that works even better as a thinly veiled, caustic parody of Hong Kong’s social and political environment of recent times. Go to Full Review

Claudio C Nov 29 Chat yuet fan gwai / Back Home (2023) Senseless Mess (12,093 – 28 Nov 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) It is funny how certain films obtain budgets to be made, meaning producers willing to invest their money in garbage. "Chat yuet fan gwai", a.k.a. "Back Home" (2023), is one of them. The promising storyline is the following: "a young man, Lai Heung Wing (Anson Kong), who lives in Canada, returns to his motherland when he is informed that his mother is seriously hospitalized without tongue. Wing left Hong Kong because he used to see ghosts when he was a boy and stays at his mother’s apartment on the sixth floor of a derelict building. He learns that the seventh floor is haunted and inhabited by ghosts". But then the plot becomes a senseless mess with an awful development and conclusion. In the end, this film is one of the worst ever made, with fake reviews and overrated. My vote is one.
