Stephen Farber Hollywood Reporter Anyone who doubts that documentaries can have as much dramatic and emotional power as the best narrative films should see the Greg Louganis doc, Back on Board. Aug 5, 2015 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety There is something poignant about the footage of Louganis now (or really, a couple of years ago), making public appearances to scrape by, and finding his way back to a sport he dominated after having removed himself from it. Aug 4, 2015 Full Review John Doyle Globe and Mail Back on Board: Greg Louganis is a plainly told but powerful documentary about [Louganis'] life. Aug 4, 2015 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh Playback:stl ...an absorbing and, in the end, typically American story of perseverance through adversity. Rated: 7/10 Feb 7, 2016 Full Review Ian Buckwalter Washington City Paper Furjanic shows a keen sense of how to structure Louganis' failures alongside his dramatic victories for maximum impact, as well as making poignant personal-is-political statements about evolving views of homosexuality. Aug 6, 2015 Full Review Roger Catlin rogercatlin.com Louganis' sunny personality... and quite a lot of spectacular footage of his winning run make the film compelling. Audience Member What a beautiful soul this amazing Olympic legend has, and all the things he has overcome are just phenomenal. This is honestly a must-watch for any gay person struggling. You haven't seen struggling... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member A great documentary about a formerly-bullied gay athlete who comes to own his identity and defend himself proudly. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Making me cry, basically Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Greatest Gay athlete pays a heavy price for his gayness which translates into big promotional bucks that Wheaties doesn't want on its box. Then came HIV status & vamp lover & other scams & schemes leading finally to coming out with a number one best seller. Which led back to the sport he loved & marriage partner who really loved him. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent documentary about life after the Olympics off the greatest diver who ever lived, Greg Louganis. Moving and very revealing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Just saw this last night and was impressed with Greg's journey over the years, both good and bad, as well as with his sympathetic treatment by the film. I was one of the original Kickstarter backers, so it was cool to see my name at the end, but mostly I'm happy my little bit of money helped bring Greg's story to the screen. It's sad that someone as dominant as he was could not cash in because of his sexuality and the silly fear that he could not project the "proper" image for products. I also condemn the Barry Dillers and David Geffens of the world, as they surely could have hired Greg as some sort of corporate rep. or spokesperson, but they did not. I'm glad Greg seems to have reached a good place in his life, as he comes off as basically a good guy who deserves happiness. Go, Greg! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
