What to Know

Critics Consensus

A startlingly assured feature debut from director Kane Parsons, Backrooms bends the liminal spaces that have haunted the internet for years into a horror film that's as mesmerizing as it is terrifying.

Powered by a magnetic cast, Backrooms may oscillate between atmospheric allure and oneiric disorientation, but Kanepixels’ spell remains undeniable.

The Backrooms part of Backrooms is great, well-rendered, and incredibly unsettling. Though the story supporting the film could use a little work, the production is overall an achievement. Go to Full Review

The movie’s grip holds, even past the point where it’s clear no traditional explanation is coming to save the characters or us. Go to Full Review

In all, this is a deliciously unnerving and accomplished film from a very young filmmaker. Go to Full Review

Backrooms remains an interesting, atmospheric film, clearly made by someone with very concrete ideas about what they want to convey, even if some of that ambition ultimately exceeds their ability to fully develop it. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Jonathan 9h Soundtrack was amazing. 100% recommend this See more Anderson 11h It was a good movie for what it was, but the ending left a lot to be desired. See more kenzy 11h ending couldve been better was really routing for the black guy See more Alex 12h Was not my favorite but was a good slow burn with an enough weirdness to keep you entertained. It was a mental break down trying to figure out what all the rooms were and to find peace in knowing that we would get the answer but you never do making think long after on what the heck just happened See more Duron W 13h It builds tension nicely. Wonderful soundtrack. We'll written main characters. The final act reminds me of Hereditary where the first two acts set the stage for a wild end. I really like the symbolism, analogies, and themes the director explored. It's worth a watch and I plan on giving it a re-watch. It's already in my top 10 horror movies of all time as a big horror movie fan. Great balance of unsettling, pure horror, tension, and deeper topics. See more Blackout2028 16h This was a very enjoyable horror film from Kane Parson's interpretation of the Backrooms. It didn't lean too heavily on the typical jumpscare you'd normally expect in a horror movie, but still managed to keep you on the edge for what could be lurking around the corner. Set pieces, sound design, editing and acting were all on point. Can't wait for the sequal to expand on this alternate world brought to the big screen. See more Read all reviews
