Keith R @Keith_R Mar 14 BV is a simple, direct, and nicely stylized indy movie that largely resembles an intimate 2-person theater production. The direction and photography never intrude and you feel that you are in the room with two people who are interacting naturally, without pretense or script. The themes are serious and include mental health, recovery, family breakdown, and a father's attempt to deal with the 2-year previous suicide of his teenage son. All are handled in a subtle European/Icelandic fashion - understated without wailing or rending. It may take a few minutes until you realize there is no soundtrack. But, you quickly forget that and when it does occur for a short scene, it is subtle. The 2 main characters are fully human, with all the compromises, problems and issues that entails. Definitely worth a watch, but do it in a quiet place where you can immerse yourself without interruption. You won't want to distract the actors ... who are that close to you. A middle aged woman is released after a stay in an alternative mental health facility outside Reykjavik. She appears aimless and in the process we learn that she doesn’t want to return to her previous home and meet her mother who is back after disappearing when she was little. She books a stay at a rental facility and there she meets an Englishman who is in fugue state himself mourning the death of his son in a nearby location a couple years earlier. Eventually there will be successful reconciliation and resolution of the various issues. The process is respectful and free of sudden romances and other improbabilities. Good cinematography featuring the beautiful Icelandic nature. After we conquer Greenland we should incorporate Iceland next. The actors are believable. Nice music as well. On Prime.
