From his unlikely roots as the son of a Jewish doctor in Brooklyn, to his ongoing wanderings as the last of the singing cowboys, Ramblin' Jack has packed so many adventures into his 68 years that he seems more myth than man. He ran away to the rodeo at the age of fifteen, traveled and sang with Woody Guthrie, and became friend and mentor to a young Bob Dylan. Read More Read Less

Audience Member The life and career of folk pioneer Ramblin' Jack Elliott is covered by his daughter, with a specific focus on how the personality that contributed greatly to his art made him a really lousy father. A text book case of why you shouldn't count on great musicians being great people. Elliott comes off as a really self-centered jerk. I love his music, but I find it fascinating that so many people in the documentary describe him as a really authentic person when he's the son of a Jewish doctor raised in Brooklyn who looks strikingly like Dustin Hoffman in a cowboy hat to me. People see what they want to I guess. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member It's unfortunate that Aiyana Elliott felt a need to insert herself into this documentary about her father. When you have a character as interesting as Ramblin' Jack you need to get out of the way and tell his story, not your story of attempting to connect with your dad. You're far from interesting Aiyana Elliott Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting insight into the life of a neglected legend in American folk music. Interesting narrative perspective being from his daughter and all... if you're a folk fan, I suggest you take a look. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A sad and somewhat tragic look at the folk music icon through the eyes and camera of his daughter. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member half assed documentary. this would have been great if chris guest edited it or something. like a hardcore comedy, cuz it was on the line. pathetic and realitively abstract, boom this is lame. i care not for rambling jack. altho you wont find a bigger fan of all his contempararies. this is sooo freaking sad, in his daughters eyes, of how this man was never there and just should not have been allowed out of a padded room. seriously. dotn do that to the pretty little darling girl.
