Critics Consensus

While Basket Case definitely delivers all the gonzo gore promised by its cracked premise, it's really set apart by its rich vein of genuine pathos.

Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness A thing of modest B-movie beauty. Rated: B Jan 18, 2007 Full Review Sharai Bohannon A Nightmare On Fierce Street Podcast This is possibly Frank Henenlotter at his best. It's easy to see why 'Basket Case' is an important piece of horror cinema history. Bilal crawled so that Gabriel could run backward! Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 30, 2024 Full Review Megan Seling The Stranger (Seattle, WA) I’m pretty sure that makes it the ultimate high-brow/low-brow horror movie. Oct 22, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand [Henenlotter's] tribute to the grindhouse horror films he loves, a low-budget monster movie with creative twists and DIY special effects created with a mix of puppets, models, and stop-motion animation. Oct 29, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins One of the pioneers of exploitation horror, complete with nudity, gore, hilariously absurd dialogue, and silly creature effects. Rated: 7/10 Aug 31, 2020 Full Review Alan Jones Starburst It shouldn't work at all. but amazingly it does and exceptionally well too. Apr 14, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Tyler B Touching and stomach turning. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/02/25 Full Review Teddy B Frank Henenlotter's frenzied imagination sets this oddity apart from your usual exploitative shlock. 'Basket Case' is surprisingly well-constructed and sympathetic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review Todd B I don't remember, when I was young, but when I got older, I liked this movie. The psychic connection between Bilal and and his normal brother. I think that the normal brother is dreaming about running naked to where? It didn't make sense. The memory is vague. In meantime, Bilal is at his brother's girlfriend's house fondling her breasts or tits, persay. They even go back to when they first was separated, awesome movie. It looks aged and dated on the DVD version. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Adjey L Much better second time viewing Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/05/24 Full Review Jonathan O Basket Case is really a sleazy horror comedy film for a B film and really impressive non stop animation scenes and shocking comedic violence and really nasty 42nd streets of the 80's. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review phil v one of the greatest cult classics of all time and tremendous entry into the world of slashers. the film is set in filthy 80s nyc (an outstanding backdrop). siamese twin brothers ‘duane’ and ‘belial’ seek revenge on the doctors who separated them. the is gore plentiful and the creative kills were fn awesome. director, ‘frank henenlotter’ hit a grand slam on this. a highly recommended watch. if you’re lover of horror this film is a must. 5 🤘🏻’s Up!! @vibez666 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/25 Full Review Read all reviews
