Yanier G @NagoyaGonchan Dec 18 Masterfully illustrated with painted backgrounds faithful to the manga, it's a short, complete cyperpunk love story in two acts, about lives caught up in the rat race. As a period piece, it offers the absolute best of 90s anime. Even in 2025, it holds up very well. Whereas most action anime bore with lectures and cowboy stares while the characters "power up", Battle Angel delivers clever combat without fluff. The soundtrack is just as good as the fast-paced, intense fights. Please don't watch this dubbed, it's a criminal offense to the director. As for the other reviewer who likened the story to Pinocchio, you completely missed the point: It's not about cyborgs wanting to be real people or vice versa. If that's all you got out of it, I feel bad for you. For young men who aspire a better life before truly appraising the treasures already in front of them, this movie will trip you up. It's just a one hr anime based on the manga by the same name, being a 1993 production obviously the animation is simple and dated but the story makes it work. It covers the first two arcs of the manga, based on a futuristic dystopian world were cyborgs are common. The plot revolves around how people survive in the city and to what extends will they go for their desires, everyone has different desires and some seem more human and natural than others. I watched it after seeing the trailer for the 2018 live adoption, can't wait for the release of the movie.
