Jamie Healy Radio Times While the film might not fully grasp the zeal for the kill with which Pavlichenko went about her deadly business, it succeeds as a portrait of an inspirational hero who not only fought for her country but also had to stand up to chauvinism and prejudice. Audience Member Battle for Sevastopol is a 2015 biographical war film about Lyudmila Pavlichenko, a young Soviet woman who joined the Red Army to fight the German invasion of the USSR and became one of the deadliest snipers in World War II. The movie revolves principally around the events of the siege of Odessa and the siege of Sevastopol of 1941-1942. The film is directed by Sergey Mokritskiy and stars Yulia Peresild as Pavlichenko. Some say that the 2015 movie Battle for Sevastopol has issues with writing, direction, and balance. Others say that it's slow and campy. Some say the movie is slow and that they wanted to fast-forward through some of it. Some say the title doesn't say much about the movie, which is a biopic about a real-life Soviet female war hero. Some say that the movie doesn't fully grasp the zeal for the kill with which Pavlichenko went about her deadly business. Vision wrote, "they spent more than half the film womanizing her. Great performance by the way but not the war-type we're looking for. She was portrayed in more intimate content than that of her glorifying title; lady of death. The film felt like a tribute to her more than a battle for Sevastopol. Some say the film is gripping and tells a tragic story without glamorizing war. Instead the horror of war is pervasive and though she is a survivor her story is tragic. In Battle for Sevastopol, the action scenes were a cesspool of bad CGI. The CGI was very prevalent. Sad story but bad movie." Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/25 Full Review Phuong N Movie is pretty good, is very touching. This movie show me the brutality of war. This movie is good to watch !!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/14/23 Full Review Johan S This movie goes right to the heart. We are reminded of the people behind the enourmous war effort in Russia. People who have to leave their normal life behind and become soldiers. Through endless defeats and retreats the russians through snipers like Lyudmila slowly turns the tide of battle. The movie must be seen in it´s original language. It´s a war movie, but with enourmous depth. Lyudmilas story is fantastic, but it never feels fictional. Anyone interested in the eastern front of WW2, or an engaging story can see this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/22/22 Full Review Read all reviews
