Critics Consensus

Ugly, campy, and poorly acted, Battlefield Earth is a stunningly misguided, aggressively bad sci-fi folly.

Alexander Walker London Evening Standard Appalling. Jun 3, 2015 Full Review Jeff Strickler Minneapolis Star Tribune Logic is in short supply. Burned-out cities have electricity, for example. My favorite: A hangar full of jets, buried under 1,000 years of dust, not only fire up instantly but still have full tanks of gas. Apr 30, 2014 Full Review Jay Boyar Orlando Sentinel Not awful, but pretty bad. A third-string Planet of the Apes meets Star Trek, Battlefield Earth is a largely uninspiring sci-fi adventure with a Swiss-cheese plot. Apr 30, 2014 Full Review Tony Black Cultural Conversation It remains, genuinely, the worst film produced this century, as of 2020, and it is hard to imagine anything taking its crown any time soon. Rated: 1/5 Feb 15, 2021 Full Review Brian Gill Mad About Movies Podcast Lives up to the hype. This is the worst movie ever made. Rated: F Sep 2, 2020 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal Nothing so entertaining, albeit in none of the right ways, should scrape WOAT status. It's not even one of the 10 worst films from 2000, a distressingly dunderheaded year for movies in general after one of the best ever. Rated: 1/5 Jun 24, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

C.J. K It is just bad. I watched it when it came out. 24 years later it’s still a waste of time, I take issue with the reviewer who chose to associate Star Trek with this groaner. Star Wars Phantom Menace is more appropriate. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Leo M Berry Pepper is a pirate and needs to be shown respect. Shout out to Mr Whitaker Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review Tom N Alien conquest and how they would view humans is a is provocative subject. I enjoyed how a hero would rally his people and outwit his advanced oppressors. Known actors, good speci effects, and moving music make Battlefield Earth a good movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Ashley C This film is beyond redemption. If you were to see this movie on a flight (to anywhere) you'd probably be hoping the flight crew would pass out just so the aircraft would plunge into the abyss and end your misery before the opening credits ended. The storyline is preposterous to say the least, the "acting" would make a high school drama teacher cry (not in a good way), and there are so many holes in the plot as to make a Swiss fromager green with envy. After watching this film you'll regret all the negative reviews you gave to any Pauly Shore movie you ever saw. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review david This movie is utter garbage and nonsense, I’d rather watch a dental hygiene film than this utter garbage Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review Daniel S Most excellent sifi film , to bad part 2 was never made Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
