Critics Consensus

Ugly, campy, and poorly acted, Battlefield Earth is a stunningly misguided, aggressively bad sci-fi folly.

Logic is in short supply. Burned-out cities have electricity, for example. My favorite: A hangar full of jets, buried under 1,000 years of dust, not only fire up instantly but still have full tanks of gas. Go to Full Review

Not awful, but pretty bad. A third-string Planet of the Apes meets Star Trek, Battlefield Earth is a largely uninspiring sci-fi adventure with a Swiss-cheese plot. Go to Full Review

It remains, genuinely, the worst film produced this century, as of 2020, and it is hard to imagine anything taking its crown any time soon. Go to Full Review

Lives up to the hype. This is the worst movie ever made. Go to Full Review

Nothing so entertaining, albeit in none of the right ways, should scrape WOAT status. It's not even one of the 10 worst films from 2000, a distressingly dunderheaded year for movies in general after one of the best ever. Go to Full Review

R T @RT37510020 Aug 17 What a memorable and wonderful sci fi experience watched it twice when I was under 10 and again when I was in my 20s, I remembered it vividly. It was memorable funny and had great scenery. I like the acting John Travolta was pretty good in it. The makeup was cool. the costumes was cool. The setting was cool. You guys really have weird standards if you hate this movie a 3% come on critics when there’s so much garbage out there you’re gonna give this one a 3% really anyways watch the movie. See more Karol S @RT68581170 Aug 16 I must defend this movie from all of the negatives. It is a book adaptation. An adaptation of one of the best sci-fi books, authored by a legend of sci-fi writing. As with most adaptations it is impossible to get everything on the screen and some things have to be simplified or skipped to keep the story going. As a big fan of the book I deeply appreciate the fact that an attempt was made at all to get it filmed. All of those criticizing the fact things magically seem intact or working - try reading the book if you aren't able to fill in the blanks with your own imagination. All hail Johnny, the empror of galaxies, MacTyler ;) See more Steve Y @Cubby65 Jul 13 Barry Pepper's character sums up how I felt while watching this - constantly screaming NOOOOO! I genuinely liked this film and had a lot of fun watching it. Sue me 🤷‍♂️. Im just using these apps as a diary. See more James M @LizardKing75 Jun 27 This was an absolute train wreck, as the movie that it was intended. But it’s a phenomenal comedy. I recommend watching it at least once in your lifetime. See more Colby G @RT22705501 Jun 6 I think this movie was watchable and had a good concept. I found it funny and extremely campy. For that and the interesting concept it gets three and half stars. Film reminds me of a grindhouse flick - you kind of just go with it and enjoy it. Now for the bad..... where to start.... Well the CGI was atrocious, the acting was uninspired, the plot holes are a mile wide. LMAO... Camera "work" was just bad. How did they get the planes fueled up? How did they train so many pilots in 7 days? How did everyone get weapons training so fast? Yeah Idk lol. But they did so WOO!! Why was there so little Psychlo world building? It still get 3.5 stars for being memorable and humorously bad. See more Read all reviews
