Roger Christian had humble beginnings in a film studio set shop, but by the time he had hit his stride, the multi-talented set decorator, production designer, and director left his mark on two of the most influential science fiction films of all time, winning an Academy Award for set decoration on "Star Wars" (1977), and a nomination for an Academy Award for best art direction on "Alien" (1979).
