What to Know

Critics Consensus

Dexter brushes off a minor case of death and multiple false endings to reemerge as vital as ever in a knowingly absurd continuation that rediscovers the thrill of the hunt.

Joshua Rivera Slate Dexter: Resurrection is the final stage in Dexter fully embracing the trashy show it always was, deep down inside. Aug 25, 2025 Full Review Roxana Hadadi New York Magazine/Vulture Watching Resurrection is, miraculously, like stepping into a time machine back to the early days of Dexter, when it was slyly funny and had a firm grasp on its storytelling. Jul 30, 2025 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Watching Dexter prowl around New York City is far more compelling than him being miserable in the woods. Jul 28, 2025 Full Review Karina Adelgaard Heaven of Horror ...the latest spin-off in the Dexter Morgan universe. And I am loving it. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the cast is big, bold, and familiar. Rated: 4/5 Aug 11, 2025 Full Review EJ Moreno EJ Moreno The show of the summer: cool, nostalgic, and a killer good time. Aug 1, 2025 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network Dexter: Resurrection is highly enjoyable and hopefully sticks the landing, but based on the first four episodes, this will make fans of the series very happy. Justine P. Hubby & I binged watched ALL of the Dexter shows! I was ready to watch Episode 11 of the Resurrection only to be disappointed that there’s not one!! Please please please continue!! Idk what we’re going to binge now! We have to know how this goes!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/25 Full Review Johnathan S This isn’t the same Dexter we got back in the day. The original series had a unique mix of dark comedy and irony, and Resurrection doesn’t really try to bring that back. Instead, it feels like a much darker, grittier take on Dexter in his later years. The tone reminds me a lot of the final season of the original run—but this time, it’s done well. It doesn’t feel rushed or forced. Instead, it leans into the idea of an older Dexter, weighed down by everything he’s been through, and explores what that looks like in a more serious way. I do miss some of the sardonic humor and lightness that made early Dexter so unique, but I think the trade-off works. This new season feels raw, grounded, and more believable. It’s not the Dexter you laugh with—it’s the Dexter you reflect on. And honestly, that makes it a worthy continuation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/25 Full Review Ivan F They should not be had to do New Blood, and now this. Please, do not resuscitate that old corpse. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Pitcher R Thank goodness for TikTok, am I right? After new blood, even the main star Michael C Hall was done with the show. The writers however left the ending a bit open, while never specifically showing Dexter fully die. They knew one day there was a potential. About a year after new blood, Dexter began to gain tremendous traction on social media. Some videos received tens of millions of views with millions of likes, shares, favorites. An entire generation fell in love with the show and characters. So much so, that it was impossible to ignore. With new light of opportunity, it seemed the writers and cast could not deny the impact the show had and was having. They knew the people wanted Dexter back, and damn it they brought it back well. Resurrection feels like a completely new spark. Not to mention the stacked cast, whitty writing, and amazing ability to give fans what they want while simultaneously keeping us guessing, this show is everything fans wanted with Dexter. One can only hope the season finales stay strong. I am more than excited to continue this series, as it seems as a conglomerate they know how much power they hold, and so far have done nothing but good with it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Daniel J Dexter is really back with this new season. Wasn’t that keen on New Blood but the writing on this is brilliant. It really feels like you’re following the old show and bringing back Harry was a great decision. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Peter M It's amazing! Great writing! Love this show. Keep it going! Would love to see more seasons. Thank you for bringing Dex back and giving us an amazing story. THANK YOU! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/25 Full Review Read all reviews
