What to Know

Critics Consensus

Stylistically bold and scary as hell, Noah Hawley's Alien: Earth transplants the Xenomorph mythos into the television medium with its cinematic grandeur intact while staking out a unique identity of its own.

Sam Adams Slate It’s a big show about big ideas, expansive in a moment when most television is scaling back, and it’s got a whole universe to explore. Aug 16, 2025 Full Review David Bianculli NPR The action and the visuals are first class, and the special effects are a clever mixture of the latest in computer-generated imagery and the old-fashioned type of practical effects used back in the early "Alien" days. Aug 15, 2025 Full Review Rebecca Nicholson Financial Times It is the best Alien instalment since 1986. Rated: 5/5 Aug 14, 2025 Full Review Chris Klimek Pop Culture Happy Hour (NPR Podcast) This show is like, if you took the Saturday morning cartoon version of Alien but then gave it the absolute A production values and all of the permission for gnarly horror and profanity and violence and all the things we associate with Alien. Aug 19, 2025 Full Review Joelle Monique Pop Culture Happy Hour (NPR Podcast) I loved everything about it. I loved the acting performances. I loved the production design. I loved the music. Everything about this show as an extreme Alien fan resonates with me. Aug 19, 2025 Full Review Glen Weldon Pop Culture Happy Hour (NPR Podcast) Babou Ceesay is the breakout star of this for me. He is completely compelling. I wanted more of him at every second. Aug 19, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Brady R. Seems like a movie for young adults. Has a very childish tone and just hard for me to take seriously. I understand they want to be different but this seems like it’s not even in the alien universe Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/20/25 Full Review Audience Member It’s frickin awesome Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/19/25 Full Review John S better than "Alien: Romulus" Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/20/25 Full Review Rob v It is remarkable how this show is getting such high ratings, when there is zero suspense, and they manage to make the alien not only not scary, but goofy. It feels like a lot of contradicting ideas were thrown together, and they don't mix well. Despite a solid cast, great effects and beautiful sets, the incompetence is baffling. Where are all these high reviews coming from? Do so many people just have poor taste? Or is the plentiful fan service enough to make a large chunk of the audience overlook its poor direction and writing? The opening of the first episode oversteps the line between hommage and theft, by literally copying entire shots from Ridley Scott's Alien, but without the patience and restraint. The show also constantly reuses sound effects from Alien and Aliens, which is jarring as it does not fit the rest of the audio at all. And the idea of sending a bunch of children in android bodies, to do search and rescue on a crashed spaceship. It is just so weird. It is also hard to take any of it serious, when first responders don't even consider the crash site a biohazard. Even when encountering literal escaped alien lifeforms! Scifi needs to be smart. Horror needs to be scary. This is neither. And any time an episode of this show ends, it cuts to very jarring rock music over the end credits. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/25 Full Review A B I was really hoping this was going to be good. Oh were my hopes crushed. It is nothing new at all. It's rated better than Alien and Aliens? I mean... okay? It definitely is not. It also isn't new. It isn't fresh. It isn't stylish. It is not bold. It very bad. Very strange choices. It is pretty weird to normalize children as adults, I think you can understand how bad that looks. Doesn't matter that they look like adults they are still children. Also, the constant "boy genius" feet shots... its beyond weird... I also think you know what I'm saying here. There is much wrong with the show and what it is trying to portray as intelligent. It is everything but intelligent. I wish I could give this a 0//5 but that isn't an option. My advice is to stay away. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/25 Full Review Rhys H Terrible. They don't understand what alien is. They have introduced super hero children into the alien franchise. Plot armour has never been more prevalent. This is a peter pan reboot featuring a xenomorph with eczema. If you love 1 and 2 don't watch this show. It's offensive. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/25 Full Review Read all reviews
