What to Know

Critics Consensus

Stylistically bold and scary as hell, Noah Hawley's Alien: Earth transplants the Xenomorph mythos into the television medium with its cinematic grandeur intact while staking out a unique identity of its own.

Roxana Hadadi New York Magazine/Vulture The series’ first season was too committed to childish things to allow the franchise to grow up. Sep 24, 2025 Full Review Phillip Maciak The New Republic As this new show hurtled by, I felt the visceral excitement of its creator, the explosion of his ideas, his genuine love for the material. Aug 20, 2025 Full Review Sam Adams Slate It’s a big show about big ideas, expansive in a moment when most television is scaling back, and it’s got a whole universe to explore. Aug 16, 2025 Full Review Bethan Ackerley New Scientist Alien: Earth is more than a lovingly crafted homage. It is full of invention... At such times, the show more than justifies its existence by daring to reimagine the franchise. Oct 6, 2025 Full Review Steve Murray ArtsATL Gleefully gory and philosophical, the show has uneven bits but a strong cast including Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis and Babou Ceesay. Oct 3, 2025 Full Review David Hogan hoganreviews.co.uk Alien: Earth ended up meeting my expectations, managing to tick all the Alien franchise boxes while adding so much more, so long as the cliffhanger ending if followed up on it's going to go down as one of the greats. Clayton F I was really ready to love this, particularly after being disappointed by Romulus. But as the show wore on, it just never presented a grounded, believable world. There was something about it that felt like a Covid production - small, artificial, like actors on a stage. The characters are exclusively one dimensional. The plotting feels AI generated - each scene mechanically engineered to get to the expected conclusion, to move the plot forward towards the expected ends. Critics are lauding the philosophy but I fail to see any beyond first year 101 stuff. It’ll make you yearn for the monologues of David and Ash. I was at least hoping that season one might leave these characters behind and future seasons might be more of an anthology approach set in the same world, but alas. So zero excitement from me. As a real Alien lover, and someone who is keen to see the franchise do new, unexpected things, I doubt I will be following this into the future. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/08/25 Full Review Creative E The show started out promising and then went down hill quickly. The characters did not make intelligent choices and the alien was a side character in the show. Also, per the comic books, the aliens identified and communicated using pheromones, visual queues and telepathy (not clicking noises from miles away). The whole Peter Pan theme was strange and the kid characters were annoying. The only interesting characters were Morrow and Kirsh. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/08/25 Full Review Some Guy F Real mixed bag, I wouldn't say it's bad on the technical aspects. However a lot of it is too blatantly trying to copy themes of previous movies in the franchise but without the nuance or originality. It's fine as an homage to the classics but I don't think it would hold up on it's own without the surrounding lore (see at least Alien, Aliens and Prometheus before this) as any enjoyment in this really comes from "Oh that's like the thing from that other thing." Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/25 Full Review Mike S Straight up terrible plotting and dialogue ruin what is a visually and stylistically compelling show. As many have said, the character development, plot holes, and heavy-handed (frankly, silly) treatment of the overall series' themes make this show nearly unwatchable in its final episodes. As others have said also, the novel interpretation of the alien is laughable as well. Have to give it credit for visuals/style and casting but absolutely can't recommend. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/25 Full Review Nicholas M Really liked this series, great spin on the Alien idea. Only thing that I really don’t like is the one episode a week thing. But seems to the way that everything is going now🙄 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/07/25 Full Review R N There's so much potential in this immensely beloved franchise, yet, unfortunately, this latest instalment feels like a complete disappointment coming out of Hollywood. The portrayal of the Alien character is laughable, reduced to being a mere pet responding to an all-powerful, "Mary Sue" character. The development of the characters is nonexistent, and while some dialogues begin with promise, the story ultimately goes nowhere. Overall, it's simply a waste of time and not worth watching.
