Lindsey Bahr Associated Press “East of Wall” is a promising start for a burgeoning filmmaker and a worthy portrait of an insular world that many of us will never know. Rated: 3/4 Aug 15, 2025 Full Review Michael O'Sullivan Washington Post If “East of Wall” celebrates anything, it’s a kind of beautiful anarchy. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 15, 2025 Full Review Meredith G. White Arizona Republic There's nothing more frustrating than a film that has all the makings to be great only to be taken down by an Achilles' heel, which in the case of "East of Wall" was the dialogue and the acting. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 15, 2025 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue An evocative portrayal of life on the socioeconomic margins, this heartfelt rural drama explores familiar themes such as grief, trauma, and family legacies from a fresh perspective. Aug 15, 2025 Full Review Bill Newcott The Saturday Evening Post If there is any justice in the universe of cinematic legacies, Tabatha’s monologue in East of Wall will endure right up there with Quint’s in Jaws and Colonel Kurtz’s in Apocalypse Now. Rated: 4/5 Aug 15, 2025 Full Review Jared Mobarak Hey, Have You Seen ...? An inability to differentiate between what's real, inspired by reality, or a complete fabrication is a badge of honor. Give credit to Tabatha too because she's the loom weaving truth and artifice together into a single bolt of cloth. Rated: 8/10 Aug 15, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Kevin L Damn, this is a real piece of work, Kate Beecroft! Knocked me out. Beecroft's writing and directing of this riveting faly-on-the-wall film making shows real depth and skill while also showcasing her obvious empathy and love for her cast and their stories. Tone, pacing, editing, intense close-up camera work to go w/ all the glorious filming of the work they do w/ the horses and the resonating presence of the Badlands, all melds together to make a remarkable film about Tabatha Zimiga and her fractured family. The acting here is largely done by non-actors, w/ many of them playing themselves. Tabatha and Porshia Zimiga more than hold than own w/ the likes of veterans McNairy and Ehle. Ehle just disappears into her role as Tabatha's very regretful mother. This 'Family', of sorts, will stay together, by hook or by crook. But it may take some store credit, dodging bill collections, and some peach moonshine to get by. Man, do the Badlands look like BAD LANDS. And the approach Beecroft takes in using their presence, the brutal deadly sense of the terrain, and returning to it as she does, makes that topography powerful imagery in giving of sense of these peoples' lives, and their proximity to such a real and fatal presence. The movie feels rough around the edges, but that actually adds to the authenticity and realism of people whose lives & personalities are all rough around those edges. 3.8 stars Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Joseph D I wish it were a TV series so I could see these characters weekly. They really touched my heart This was like "This is Us" is current day South Dakota. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/25 Full Review Kyle N I don’t understand the high critic scores. The fact that out of the 9 AMC showings in my area on opening night only 1 had a single person speaks volumes to how audiences really felt after seeing it as a Screen Unseen sneak preview 2 weeks ago. The film was so slow, boring and very depressing most of the time. I was reminded of Nomadland, which critics also seemed to love. I want to be entertained by a movie and escape from reality, not feel depressed. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/15/25 Full Review Stephen C Success in 1 hour and 37 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/25 Full Review K K East of the Wall Authentic and raw, and I like both, especially in movies. Actually, this movie brought back memories from my youth when living in regions where horses, hunting, guns were a major focus. This movie did a good job at being authentic to types of people and behaviors when telling this story. “Pee on property and restraining order” is such humor in difficult times. Interesting how physical acts along with legal ones can help a person get their power back. While I had trouble connecting to others in these sorts of environments in my youth, and always felt like an outsider, some of the skills I learned from that time period are beneficial in life today. Although I recall one time in my youth some people stating their hobby was "puddle/mud wrestling", needless to say not up my alley, yet I enjoyed them showing real scenes exhibiting human dynamics in certain areas and being accurate. The people and characters exhibited big hearts, emotions and smart minds, even if far different ways of living than me. I still enjoyed this movie! Even knowing the subject wasn't necessarily my thing, I kept an open mind and went, and was glad I did! Good movie. The memories this movie brought back of some of my youth, good and bad, which means the movie did a great at portraying people in certain situations, including how they would behave physically, mentally, emotionally. If the events and scenes were not so authentic, I would not have connected and thought of things that existed like this when I was around! Check this movie out. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/25 Full Review Karl L East of Wall is stunning! The acting is true. You care about the characters Kate Beecroft and the actors create. The story moves and builds really well. And it's a visually beautiful movie. You should probably go see it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/25 Full Review Read all reviews
