What to Know

Critics Consensus

Wednesday's second season smartly opens up to include more of the whole Addams clan, backing up Jenna Ortega's lovably heartless teenager with an ookier and spookier ensemble.

Judy Berman TIME Magazine It’s all pretty delightful for those of us who are old enough to appreciate not just the referential casting, but also the just-campy-enough performances that Buscemi, Matarazzo, and the rest deliver. Aug 12, 2025 Full Review Nadira Goffe Slate The lack of a romantic plot for our lugubrious heroine is the biggest change so far between Wednesday Seasons 1 and 2. Hell, it might even be the only major narrative change, and it’s surprisingly refreshing. Aug 12, 2025 Full Review Rebecca Nicholson Financial Times If television is losing eyeballs in the digital era, then Wednesday appears to have cracked the code to retaining them. Rated: 4/5 Aug 8, 2025 Full Review Natasha Alvar The Fiction Department Ortega is a star, but the plotlines that surround her character need work. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 8, 2025 Full Review Gissane Sophia Lady Geeks Media Brimming with secrets, more animosity between parents and children, plus a diligent exploration of what equates to completion, the season does more than an excellent job of setting the stage for a perhaps more vulnerable next step. Sep 6, 2025 Full Review Alex Zalben IGN Movies Despite a stand-out episode that proves to be the best of the so-far two-season run, Wednesday Season 2, Part 2 is still trying to balance too many elements, lacking the focus of the best supernatural/school-based shows. Sakura U can't wait for the season 3 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/13/25 Full Review Davey C I really did enjoy how they brought more of the Adams family in this series and leaned more into there family giving us more Lure on them and now bringing huckle into Nevermore an enjoyable story and brings more Adams into the story and tells us more about them God bless Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/12/25 Full Review Jackson C. Amazing follow up to the first season. Exemplary storytelling. Worth the wait Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/12/25 Full Review Rosemarie L Ich find beide Staffeln klasse Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/12/25 Full Review Mike D Rating this a 3 because I feel like 1 star is super harsh. I enjoyed it enough. Very lackluster for a 3 year wait though. 8 episodes not even totalling 7 hours. New characters not very compelling. I think 5-6/10 is fair. Hoping season 3 is better, but if they take another 3 years I'm pretty much over it. This one felt rushed and seemed like it was trying to please too many people. What happened to all the great supernatural shows? I feel like Buffy/Angel are still the best paranormal tv series of all time. I count them together as they ran concurrently and had the same exact tone and universe. Best Characters, great writing, gets better as it goes on. I didn't really feel connected to any of the characters on this new season of Wednesday. I didn't care if they lived or died. I don't see the "character development" others have mentioned. 1 star is crazy though. There is still a lot to appreciate here, and it was entertaining. Overall just felt rushed with unnecessary filler, lame new characters. Blah blah blah it's definitely not a 5/5. There is much worse you can watch though. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/12/25 Full Review Bryan S The Problem with Wednesday. The first season started strong, it had a Addams family meets Scoobie-Doo feeling. The school was presented as a place where abnormal people could come, learn, and be themselves. The outside world seemed oblivious to the existence of such people, gorgons, sirens, vampires, etc...this created an interesting dynamic between the cast and the setting. Season 2, that has gone out the window. The universe has changed to the point everyone knows about "outcasts" and knows they have special powers, to the point an "outcast prison" exists. Furthermore, the outcasts, at no point or time, seem oppressed, despite themselves believing they are. It comes across as more of an elitist ultra wealthy private school for the worst individuals of the upper crust rather then any sort of safe haven for individuals who maybe persecuted. It gets so bad, that the "outcasts" openly use their abilities to take advantage of and abuse the regular people on a frequent basis. It is the problem with modern writing personified, "I am special, because I am special I am entitled to do what I want, and if you protest, you are oppressing me" The core of the show, Wednesday solving crimes, is actually enjoyable. The problem lies in the fact that she now seems to have a easy out rather then having to think. She can just magic up her answers via her Psychic abilities. She does "lose" these abilities early in the season, but her abilities are simply replaced with her grandma, instantly giving her answers to questions rather then her having to dig in any meaningful way. Less interactions with various characters, she just instantly knows the name of someone and goes to that person. Fester also acts as a replacement for this power, he does most of the heavy lifting early in the season while wednesday mostly spends her time being snarky. it would be nice for her to have to interact with the public, put her holier-then-thou attitude on hold to learn to deal with people. I do not suspect the writers to do this ever, being as how the writing is already getting lazy and its only season two. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
