Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid The titular beast only appears for a few minutes... So all that's left is to focus on the human characters, and, fortunately, perhaps thanks to Hellman's touch, there's a grittiness, a lack of artificiality, to them that seems uncommon for this period. Rated: 3/4 Nov 12, 2023 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy It’s interesting to note how the creature cocoons and feeds on its still-living victims in much the same way as a more famous monster that was first introduced in a 1979 Ridley Scott classic. Monsol E The monster was lame, but I enjoyed the character drama. I especially loved how they broke into a mint, and only stole 6 bars of gold. "that's all we can carry"....BOI. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review dave s Beast From Haunted Cave ambitiously attempts to combine a crime caper (crooks pull of a gold heist in the scenic Black Hills of South Dakota) with a monster movie (a giant, fuzzy spider-like creature likes to eat crooks) but fails at pretty much every level. The dialogue is horrible, the acting is wooden, the whole thing looks like it was shot with a Super-8 camera, the music score never seems to stop, the monster looks arthritic, the continuity is a mess and none of the characters' actions seem to make much sense, including the ridiculous escape plan. But at least it shows some ambition, for whatever that may be worth. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review ashley h Beast from Haunted Cave is a disappointing. It is about a group of gold thieves who pull of a heist and flee into the snowy wilderness. Michael Forest and Frank Wolff give horrible performances. The screenplay is badly written. Monte Hellman did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A good old fashioned horror the beast is very weird but for a 57 year old film, it is worth a watch Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member This isn't the worst horror effort for what is a seriously low-budget film, however it really does show at times. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Silly Roger Corman produced monster film is better than average, but is still nothing too special. One thing that sets this film apart is that it was directed by Monte Hellman, who'd later go on to direct classics like "Cockfighter" and "Two Lane Blacktop" (although his filmography is admittedly a mixed bag). In this low budget picture a monster (who kind of looks like the Flying Spaghetti Monster) traps it's victims, takes them back to it's cave, and then wraps them up in it's web to eat later. Overall, the film works because the monster costume looks pretty good, despite the low budget, and director Hellman manages to create some decent suspense. Certainly not a brilliant film, but if you're in the mood for an old fashioned monster film, this one is worth checking out. And on a side note, this film did remind me of the "Alien" films with the hapless victims being kept alive while bound against cave walls. I'm pretty sure this film must have been an influence on that classic. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
