      Critics Consensus

Fundamentally misguided, poorly written, and badly acted, Beastly adds little to the legacy of its timeless source material.

Faltou aquele Tchan. Vale apena assistir? sim Nota: 5,5 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review ViraRiva its ok. kinda cringey/embarrassing to watch at some scenes. i didn't think the acting was bad though like some people are saying. dialogue does seem unnatural at times. the 'beasts' makeup was really well done in my opinion looked flawless. i didn't hate it, but didn't like it either. very neutral of this movie Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/23 Full Review Audience Member beautiful modern version of beauty and the beast I really liked the delicacy of the film Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This was really one of the worst movies i've seen in a very long time! Such a flat story and flat characters... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is about individual's care / concern about his/her IMAGE, IMPRESSION in the eyes of others in modern society, primarily in terms of physical appearance, and dressing. It is a powerful concern shaping one's relations also, even within a family. Kyle is a spoiled student, son of a famous TV speaker. His father is an image man and Kyle is brought up with this emphasis. Kyle is not only proud of his image, but also humiliates others who does not fit to his standards. To him, it is a matter of winners, and losers, an extreme case of a common psychology. In a party, he mocks a girl from school for her appearance, but he gets a big problem out of it. Because she is a witch, and she curses him. He gets a scar beastly face , something he always deeply despised. He begs to the girl to turn him back what he was. She says that she would do it only with one condition. If a girl fall in love with him within six months, he will get back to normal. His father wants him to live separately for a while, arranges a maid and a blind tutor to take care of him. So Kyle starts living alone. In the same party he was cursed, he also met with ordinary girl, Lindy. He felt deep inside attracted to her, but preferred to ignore it. As events unfold, he comes across with her again. This time he killed one of her father's drug addicted friends. Now Lindy's life is under danger because of possible revenge. So he convince her, and her father to move her to his house for her safety. He does all this with false identity. And he finds out he is falling in love with her. And he wants Lindy to love him also. So he works for that. And eventually he is successful. When Kyle returns to normal, that is a double win for Lindy, Because she was also attracted to Kyle before hew was cursed. In fact this is also a movie of a good heart within a bad boy, listen to your heart movie. It reminds you not to ignore your genuine feelings for the sake of fake things. Nice subject, but somehow all actors failed to fill in their roles. One thing was good, reflecting the how superficial and hip-hop a modern young man concerned about his image. That was presented in a good, mockery, fun way. It is nice to watch, but that is it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member While the movie does need work in places, it's mostly harmless. It was definitely made for the Twilight crowd, with the supernatural teenage love story side to it. I actually really like the look of the makeup for the main actor in this movie. I guess people were frustrated with this movie because he wasn't more Beast looking, but I think that would've made the movie a little too unbelievable, considering it was set in modern day and doesn't have a universal fairytale, magic is all around us aspect to the movie. While they did go a little more fantasy style and pretty with the fake tattoos and makeup, they were more trying to go for a look that directly goes against what he was trying to be. They kind of gave him a look that would get him compared to someone that deals with drugs or someone that just got out of prison. They gave him a look that usually the wide public of today would judge him for and instantly presume he's bad news for. He was trying to show himself as the ultimate result of priviledge and good looks. He was trying to earn sympathy and recognition just for how appealing he appears to everyone, not for actually being a good person. And Kendra just happens to be the one that calls him out for it. So when she takes his looks away from him, he's kinda forced into becoming a better person, because now everyone is judging him solely on his appearance, including himself. Without the one trait that he admired himself for, he realizes that he's actually a pretty trash person, and starts to despise himself for it. And it also makes it all the better that his tutor is blind and can only judge him for his words and actions, and that his love interest doesn't have a glamorous lifestyle like he did, and has learned to judge people for their actions and not their looks. Also, Neil Patrick Harris as the tutor is just really likable and entertaining. And I like how they updated the rose that signifies when the Beast runs out of time to a tattoo that tells him how much time he's got left. It's just a really inspired choice, and they do get creative with it throughout the movie. That and it would be a lot less obvious than a wilting rose. I feel like the main thing that holds this movie back from being great is it's made for a very specific audience. This is definitely made for the middle aged mom and their teenage daughter crowd where they can get their romance and steamy beefcake character and melodrama. But it does have enough good stuff in it to keep it a more or less average movie. Nothing terrible, but if it isn't the kind of movies you're into, than there's not much here for you other than Neil Patrick Harris.
