Come intuibile dal titolo, in "Beats" la parte musicale è sviluppata con estrema attenzione e grandissima abilità; accompagna il film in ogni sua parte e diventa protagonista a tratti, senza mai perdere qualità e regolando perfettamente il battito cardiaco dello spettatore. Gli attori non sono certamente impeccabili ed in alcuni passaggi si nota una certa goffaggine, nonostante i personaggi dei due protagonisti siano ben sviluppati e dettagliati. La trama finisce per incupirsi eccessivamente col passare del tempo, la musica che rendeva leggera la visione non è più sufficiente quando si entra in un vortice di litigi, problemi e tristezza, da cui si esce a stento con un finale piuttosto debole.
