Audience Member I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and like Donald Trump (bankrupt at least 4 times) and other modern day scoundrels, Beau Brummel was extremely popular and well loved by a huge circle of people. And as such, those who were all too willing to become his debtors, ought have nothing to complain about. I disagree completely with "The Hollywood Reporter article by Ray Richmond in 2007. Richmond fails to mention that this kind of scoundrel - the Beau Brummell kind - is quite public about his ways. He then gets away with it because everyone of his foolish debtors is buying favour. I think the movie makes that quite clear and as such Brummell is rather liked and besides he received, some might say, his comeuppance when he died impoverished with syphilis. In those days, they didn't have the luxury of declaring bankruptcy (that is without being hung or jailed) as so many very reckless people do today and then without paying in many instances, no real deterrent penalty at all, then doing it yet again and again usually keeping their fancy homes and cars... So Beau was nothing compared to the likes of that disgusting Trump fellow...or how about Larry King no less than twice. AND how do we feel about Walt Disney - oh we love him! Oh I forgot in modern times the collective "we" admire it as the price of success and risk-taking that benefits the common "good".. I loved this movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Entertaining and well-acted portrait of one of the legendary figures of regency london Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Period drama, about the man that changed the way the upper classes dressed. Simplifying the dandy look, dark suit without wigs and britches. Coining the phrase, less is more. His biggest fan was the Prince but he looses his favour after befriending Lord Byron. He ends up desolate. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Philippa Lowthorpe, 2006 BBC In a trend that gave us this year 'The King's Speech', it is sometimes the little things that tell us much about history...the way a man speaks, the way a man dresses... We do not, in this film, get anything at all about what Brumme's source of inspiration... this is the story of his rise and fall in society, through his friendship with the Prince Regent. "Based on the book by Ian Kelly"...which I have just begun to read. Lowthorpe''s 'The Other Boleyn Girl' was lost on me, but this story, with a much smaller budget, I found engaging and telling in the ups and downs of the relatiionships amongs Brummel and some dozen characters. The score is modern and somewhat driving and poignant, a kind of stand-in for our modern point of view toward the events and the characters' lives, our sense of humor and trajedy at the unfolding events. Brummel to Lord Byron... -George, you mind if I ask you something?... Do you think that just for...just for one instant, one tiny moment, one fraction of a minute, you might just possibly see your way clear to talking about something other than yourself? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie I didn't care for, but it got me interested in this early fashion icon! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Lowthorpe adapts Kelly's biography into this far from charming little flick. Who's your fat friend?
