Jan 29, 2019 Full Review Ryan Gilbey New Statesman Beautiful Boy has a remorseless emotional integrity... It is frustrating, repetitive and inconclusive, and all the more admirable for it. Rated: 2/5 Jul 14, 2024 Full Review Ryan McQuade InSession Film Maybe it was the talent behind the camera that brought it down, but we will never know if someone with a little more of a focused eye and pen could have done with the Sheff's story. Rated: D- Apr 3, 2024 Full Review Karen Gordon Original Cin Chalamet conveys all of the necessary contradictory emotions to portray an addict, paradoxically both in love with, and repulsed by, his own tendencies and actions. It's bravura work. Rated: B+ May 2, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

BRizz 2 Beautiful Boy, starring Timothée Chalamet, truly resonated with me on a personal level. Watching it felt like looking into a mirror because I have a younger brother going through the exact same struggles depicted in the film. The way the movie portrays addiction, family pain, and heartbreak hit me deeply. The director guided the story with raw emotion, drawing the audience into the devastating reality of a young man trapped by drugs. Timothée’s portrayal of Nic is heartbreakingly authentic—showing the downward spiral of someone consumed by addiction, homeless, and disconnected from the family desperately trying to save him. It’s painful to witness, yet impossible to look away from. What struck me most was the film’s honest depiction of how addiction warps everything—how it isolates a person from those who love them and blinds them to their own destruction. The struggle with cocaine, meth, and other substances filled with dangerous chemicals feels overwhelming and terrifying. You see how Nic is so consumed by the addiction that he’s almost resigned to losing everything. The movie also beautifully captures the toll this takes on the family, especially the father, played with heartbreaking dedication by Steve Carell. His unwavering fight to save his son, despite the emotional and mental toll it takes, is both inspiring and gut-wrenching. It reminded me so much of my own family’s experience—how my mother never gives up on my brother, no matter how exhausting or painful it becomes. Beautiful Boy is more than just a movie; it’s a powerful, well-crafted portrait of addiction’s impact on individuals and families. It’s not an easy watch, but it’s an important one—especially if you’ve been touched by similar struggles. The film doesn’t sugarcoat anything, and it leaves you with a deep sense of empathy and awareness. If you or someone you know is dealing with addiction, this movie will hit you harder than you expect. But it’s also a reminder of the strength and resilience of those who refuse to give up on the people they love. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Michael T. A sorrowful tune that resonates with far too many American families today. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/01/25 Full Review Nicole S. well ouch that hurt Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Ben S Personally, my favorite Chalamet performance. The dynamic between himself and Carell certainly encasuplates addiction for those who have seen it and been around it. A true, and moving adaptation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Makenzie G. good message, wasn’t too entertaining, good acting Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review Wyatt My complaints were that some of the music choices just did not fit the scene well, some scenes didn’t make a whole ton of sense and weren’t given enough detail and explanation, and the ending was a little frustrating and not quite what I was hoping for. But there were some absolutely phenomenal scenes scattered throughout the film that were elevated even more by the performances Carell and Chalamet gave, where they did a great job of capturing the relationship between father and son that got me teary eyed. Besides the few flaws it’s overall a solid film and I recommend you watch it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Read all reviews
