Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell display deeply raw acting in an extraordinarily moving film. Belgian director Felix van Groeningen’s American indie drama Beautiful Boy (2018) is unbelievably touching and real. Beautiful Boy made me cry thanks to the tender and empathetic acting. Steve Carell is very subtle as the dejected dad David Sheff, who desperately wants to save his son Nic. Carell is so touching as this forlorn father, who really cares. It’s perhaps his best dramatic performance I’ve ever seen from Carell. Timothée Chalamet is outstanding as the despairing drug addict Nic Sheff, who bounces between entering rehab and injecting heroin. Beautiful Boy features some of Chalamet’s finest acting. Kaitlyn Dever is amazing as Nic’s girlfriend Lauren, who becomes a troubled drug addict herself because of Nic’s encouragement. In all, Beautiful Boy is heartbreaking, but ultimately hopeful. I was very touched by its optimistic and realistic sentiment.

This is a top 5 movie for me on so many levels. It's though provoking and gives a new face to addiction through Steve. I was beyond moved and I think it helps others relate and learn more about having a family member struggle with addiction. Its a movie that I recommend to all of my friends, but one that is a hard second time watch unless you want your heart broken again.
