richard c Interesting look into Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren's maybe most influential part of her life. Terrific performance by Alba August playing Astrid. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Wonderful movie with great performances. Really interesting to learn about Astrid's life and the hardships she faced. It was bittersweet in that it was hard to see her strained relationships and how they affected her. I was a little disappointed that it didn't touch on how she became a writer, but I think that was intended. The lead actress was wonderful. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review william k This movie settles on a (rather dark) segment of the famous children's author's biography and does so with commitment, good period details and especially with some extraordinary performances. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Perfectly competent biopic, well judged tone and charming performance. Jag vill bara veta mer och komma den människa jag kände mig nära som barn även nära nu som vuxen Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Beth S The soundtrack, the story, and the acting were beautiful and complex, compelling and understated. Nov 23, 2021 Full Review Josh Kupecki Austin Chronicle Becoming Astrid's saving grace is Alba August. She is in almost every frame of this film, and gives life to what, on paper, amounts to a Lifetime channel biopic. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 6, 2018 Full Review Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune Throughout "Becoming Astrid," August acquits herself brilliantly; the woman we come to know is a tangle of impulses and qualities, and feels vibrantly alive.
