Critics Consensus

Michael Keaton's devious poltergeist still has plenty of juice left in this madcap return to form for Tim Burton, marrying charming practical effects and ghoulish gags to provide a fun fun time.

Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) Unlike the Ghostbusters reboots, this does have at least some of the charm of the original. Sep 20, 2024 Full Review Stephen Romei The Australian Beetlejuice Beetlejuice shines with Burton's striking visual style and dry wit. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 20, 2024 Full Review Christina Newland iNews.co.uk There’s a resultant clumsiness to it that makes the traditional zaniness of the whole project feel telegraphed. Rated: 2/5 Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Clement Tyler Obropta Film Inquiry Once a proud young artist pioneering the exploration of the pop-macabre and the surreal, Tim Burton appears to have become a ghost of his former self. There are few, if any, traces of the iconic filmmaker in 2024’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Jared Rasic Metro Times (Detroit, MI) When I most definitely will run into a drunk guy dressed like Beetlejuice on Halloween, if I ask him to tell me about his night, it will almost certainly be a more interesting story than the one Beetlejuice Beetlejuice tells. Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Maitland McDonagh MaitlandOnMovies (Substack) [T]here’s nothing to this movie. It was gossamer, it was a spider web — swipe your hand and it vanishes. ... The final act did pick up, as if the movie had realized it was just puttering around and had to rouse itself and finish big. Too little, too late. Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Khyron Not really much action Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Faith Steinlicht the original was way better. This was just ok. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/25 Full Review Jewel Absolutely the entertainment hit of my year. I went in with an open mind and heart, having been a lover of Beetlejuice… and this movie doesn’t disappoint me! It touches on its history but also has its own unique story to unpack. Loved it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/25 Full Review Jupiter Being an absolute, lifetime, fan girl for Beetlejuice since the original, I have been waiting YEARS for this second movie. With that said, certain expectations, hopes, ideas, thoughts (the list goes on) have definitely formed (and re-formed) over the years in anticipation. So, going into this I tried my hardest not to let my hopes get too high, spiral too far out of hand, or allow myself to succumb to, too many preconceived notions or expectations upon movie number 2s emergence. Thus, when the eventual disappointment came (as I felt it inevitability would, especially with the endless ongoings and downfalls of late with/in/among Hollywood and the like), this disheartened fan would be well prepared for the walk of shame. The exiting of the theater in this presumed state of depression, would be at a point still capable of returning my empty shell of a being which remained to my home instead of ending it all there on the spot. Such preparation, hopefully, in part, may save some poor, unsuspecting soul the task of a messy clean up. However, upon viewing Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in its entirety, I must now repent of my wicked ways by admitting that while it isnt the first movie (understandably so), if one can pick up on the subtleties peppered throughout, understanding the history, sinister soul and dark brilliant mind of Tim Burton along with a running knowledge of his work and love of all things horror, this is an EXCELLENT movie which provides a deep glimpse into his life and art. Without some understanding of Mr Burton himself, however, one might find it cheesy and not be able to understand much of the cut-aways or references made in some of the backstory illustrated throughout. With that said, I would definitely recommend several viewings of this movie so as not to miss any of the aforementioned aspects. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review trequan good film but don't get hopes to high Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review G W was hoping for more. the weak screenplay and script is the killer....
