Actress Catherine O'Hara was born in Toronto, Canada, the sixth of seven children. Following high school O'Hara matriculated at Burnhamthorpe Collegiate Institute. After graduation O'Hara began performing with The Second City in Toronto in 1974, which was the beginning of her career in comedy. O'Hara served as the understudy for Gilda Radner in the troupe, until Radner decamped to NYC to work on "Saturday Night Live" (NBC 1975- ). O'Hara's TV debut came in 1976 when The Second City created "SCTV" (syndication/NBC/Cinemax, 1976-1984), which featured O'Hara as a regular performer and a writer. She portrayed a number of memorable characters in the series, most notably Hollywood starlet Lola Heatherton. Around the same time O'Hara began working as a voice over actress for cartoons. After "SCTV" ended its run, O'Hara was featured in a number of films, including "Beetlejuice" (1988), "Home Alone" (1990), and "The Nightmare Before Christmas," (1993). O'Hara also starred in a number of comedies directed by Christopher Guest, including "Waiting for Guffman" (1996), "Best In Show" (2000), "A Mighty Wind" (2003) and "For Your Consideration" (2006). She provided her voice to a number of characters in beloved animated movies such as "Chicken Little" (2005) "Over the Hedge" (2006) and "Frankenweenie" (2012). In 2015 O'Hara was cast as Moira Rose in "Schitt's Creek" (PopTV, 2015- ) an original series created by her former "SCTV" costar Eugene Levy and his son Dan Levy. O'Hara married production designer Bo Welch in 1992, and they have two sons together.
