Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) I had trouble suspending disbelief. To start with, for all the effort that has gone into digging trenches and sourcing uniforms, I was never entirely persuaded that the heroes were fighting on the Western Front. Rated: 1.5/5 Apr 5, 2024 Full Review Luke Buckmaster Guardian There were times, particularly early on, when I couldn’t help but think, “These are just actors performing in a hole in the ground.” Rated: 2/5 Apr 5, 2024 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed The script needs a bit more time, a bit more work, the direction needs a bit more finessing, the acting is as it can with the writing and direction, and the cinematography saves the film from feeling like a bit of a waste of time. Oct 3, 2024 Full Review Justin Bower Loud and Clear Reviews Before Dawn had the potential to rise above an oversaturation of World War movies, but fails to deliver substantive character development and smooth editing. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 20, 2024 Full Review Joel Copling Spectrum Culture There are no new ideas in Before Dawn. Jul 23, 2024 Full Review Jayne Nelson Radio Times The trench-set drama is poignant, and the film does deliver some important emotional lessons. Rated: 3/5 Jul 22, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Sean O The top critic obviously is clueless about WW1.... And futility of war. But he probably loves his Anzac biscuits without understanding it's origin... A lack of official resources... A more modern example of this was GPS during the gulf war. Military GPS was 1m accurate, consumer was 15m accurate. But it was such a life saver US family members were sending consumer gear to their family in the war.... As a result the US military increased the accuracy of all GPS. The crazy mix of politics, economy, science that gets driven through hatred and war. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/25 Full Review Ken S Surprisingly negative reviews by the critics led me to believe they knew little about the horrors of worldwar 1 trench warfare. I thought it is was extremely realistic perhaps more so than all quiet on the western front. Good acting the only let down was skipping between the main characters getting shot on the Hindenburg line to the moment of the armstice when the guns fell silent. Overall a surprisingly good movie that I have to rate highly Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/25 Full Review Lisa H The fact the dialogue isn’t strong makes sense—the young blokes are Aussie, and it’s not supposed to be 2024. But as their trench days go on—92, 400, 773, 843—the lads stay just as strong, healthy & stylist-groomed as they do at the start, sanitizing the hellish-horror of war. So, I’d give it 4-stars for casting & cinematography, but only 2 for story & character development; 3 on average that is, as a clean-shaven version of history for mass-viewing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/25 Full Review Wicked F Compared to other war films, this one for me wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst either. The film had good cinematic moments, but lacked depth in some areas. The beginning fell flat, and took me out of the moment for a while, but eventually it pulled itself back. In some ways the film felt like a rush to get into battle, which isn't always a bad thing, but in this case, I would had liked to explore the characters more before seeing them in battle, rather than the small amount we did get to explore. The visual effects were not bad, but the film relied more on sound to convey scenes in some areas, which was fine in some parts, but in not others, as it didn't feel immersive. Overall, the film wasn't too bad, but there were definitely some areas which could have been improved. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/06/25 Full Review simon b Don't know why this film has so many knockers. i thought it was great. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Chris F Nup it was solid and I refuse to hear otherwise. I freaking loved it. Some very clever acting in parts.
