      Critics Consensus

If it doesn't completely avoid thriller clichés, Before I Go to Sleep still offers a stylish, fast-paced, and well-acted diversion.

Luis M. D Although the movie manages to create a murky atmosphere, the plot is ultimately implausible and contains many cliches and inconsistencies. One can't avoid comparing it unfavorably to Memento. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review Devena M Just finished watching, and I gotta say I loved this movie. Before I go to sleep reminded me of the cold and creepy 2022 movie "Don't worry darling" or I guess you could say the classic matrix movies with the whole "Ben charade" as the character called it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/26/23 Full Review John S I thought this movie was exceptional. Very well-written and acted - not sure it deserves the negative reviews. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/22/23 Full Review Ian W Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Nicole Kidman. OK - should be worth a look. Wrong! An interesting concept soon got dull after about the 4th "groundhog day" moment from Ms Kidman. From then on - I reckon 15% plot and 85% holes. It is a ridiculous plot. Quite ridiculous. Did these three not read the script before accepting their roles? 4/10, I am too kind. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Seems no consistency in the story and unfortunately all characters especially the heroin were not attractive. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review colin m Okay, but a bit farfetched and implausible. Memento meets Groundhog Day for one. Louis Black Austin Chronicle This is 50 First Dates-dark, but lacking that film's humor, characterizations, dramatic interest, and consistency. Rated: 1/5 Nov 6, 2014 Full Review Kate Erbland The Dissolve Before I Go To Sleep vacillates so wildly between aims and issues that the conceit seems worthless. Rated: 2/5 Nov 3, 2014 Full Review Steve Macfarlane Slant Magazine It's hard to tell if the film is hampered or helped by the performances of its three stars, because it's so amateurishly written and directed that their participation beggars belief. Rated: 1/4 Oct 31, 2014 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Director Rowan Joffe has made a stylish looking movie but allows it to get bogged down by repetition and too-tame performances. Rated: 1.5/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com I have a sneaking suspicion that the majority of you will have it figured out rather early on. Rated: 2.5/4.0 Sep 2, 2020 Full Review Julian Lytle Punch Drunk Critics The film started out slow but ended in way that didn't feel drawn out or rushed and that's pretty surprising for a film that's about hour and a half in runtime.
