The way Phillip arrives late to dinner, still wearing his coat, and Izzy has to tell him to take it off, I knew immediately I was going to love this character and the film.

Before We Begin is a beautifully executed, tender, and thoughtful film that highlights the tension involved in bringing art, and major life decisions from a stage of abstraction into life. The intensity of the subtext in the conversations between Olivia and Phillip, and Olivia and Madeline; met with the unceremoniousness of the moments shared between them serves as a perfect allegory for making art and living life. Looking forward to seeing more from this up and coming film director!
