Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy It's trash, literally: something that wasn't good enough for its intended purpose, and so Disney slapped a box on it and charged money for it. Silly H There are absolutely ZERO redeeming qualities with this video. I can't even call it a movie! It's THAT. BAD. It's baffling how people think Hunchback II is worse than this... "thing" called a movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review TheMovieSearch R When you think of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, the words that come to mind are timeless, magical, and emotionally resonant. Unfortunately, Belle’s Magical World, the 1998 direct-to-video follow-up, feels like the complete opposite—a collection of short stories stitched together rather than a true continuation of one of Disney’s greatest masterpieces. The concept is simple: small vignettes set during Belle’s time in the castle, highlighting her love of books, kindness, and ability to bring out the best in others. On the surface, that idea fits Belle perfectly—after all, she is a natural storyteller and a character rooted in compassion and learning. But the execution leaves much to be desired. Instead of building meaningful arcs or exploring the complex relationship between Belle and the Beast, the film leans on shallow conflicts and quick resolutions that lack depth or consequence. The animation is another glaring issue. Compared to the breathtaking artistry of the 1991 original, Belle’s Magical World feels like a downgrade in every sense. The designs are flatter, the colors less vibrant, and the overall production comes across as rushed. It’s difficult not to feel like this was more of a product made to fill video store shelves than a labor of love meant to honor such a groundbreaking film. That said, there are moments where Belle’s character shines through. Her ability to nurture, to forgive, and to teach lessons about kindness and communication is evident, which makes sense for her arc. But those bright spots are fleeting, weighed down by storytelling that feels more like filler than something meaningful. Even the introduction of new characters adds little, as they fail to leave a lasting impression or elevate the story. In the end, Belle’s Magical World is a curiosity at best. For very young children, it may serve as light entertainment, but for anyone who grew up with Beauty and the Beast, it’s hard not to feel disappointed. What could have been an opportunity to enrich Belle’s world and further explore her relationship with the Beast instead comes across as an anthology of throwaway side stories. Disney’s crown jewel deserved far more than this. If there was ever going to be a sequel to Beauty and the Beast, it needed the same artistry, music, and passion that made the original timeless. Belle’s Magical World proves just how difficult it is to follow perfection—and how quickly a masterpiece can be diminished when its continuation is treated as an afterthought. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/25 Full Review Dale R This is a collection of three 25 minute shorts based on the time Belle spends at Beast’s Castle before they fall for each other and was released straight to home video. The animation in these shorts was done by Disney’s television animation division and isn’t great, but would pass for a cheap television show. Just like the previous installment, Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, this plays a little with the timeline in the original movie. There are two songs that are sung by Belle, neither are memorable and they really don’t serve the narrative in any way. How dare they not give a song to Jerry Orbach! The shorts were three episodes of a failed television series that wouldn’t have worked. Each episode that the Beast is in sees him start as a jerk and warm up to the right idea by the end. Since that already happened in the first movie, seeing that happen over and over every week would have been tedious. I wouldn’t really recommend this “movie” to anyone. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review JonahBoris B How on earth did this get a 71% FROM THE AUDIENCE? I mean, I guess if it's just ironic enjoyment then I can't really argue, but otherwise, I'm genuinely surprised!
