Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times Dramatically speaking, the runners never advance in "Benched," an overlong, talky comedy about two Little League coaches with decidedly different philosophies. Hayden H When I saw this movie I could only think of one word, wow. I was intrigued the entire movie and was on the edge of my seat at every twist of the movie. The actors brought me to tears and I haven’t cried since my father passed in ‘97. The star power for a low budget movie is incredible, from the guy in Platoon and Ralph “Boom Boom” Johnson, the cast can only be rivaled by the release of Oppenheimer. After my viewing I sat in darkness for an hour and reflected on how sacred life is and how I will never be able to watch another piece of cinema without being disappointed after watching this family friendly instant classic. After my reflection in the dark abyss, that is my room, I wondered who directed this movie. I was shocked to learn that this movie was not directed by Tarantino but rather by a pair of unknown directors who I have never heard of. Safe to say they know casting as they casted Jackson Ryan for the crucial role of Ralph “Boom Boom” Johnson. They casted this unknown for such an immense role and I had to reflect on the sanctity of life after I watched him hit a Homerun and prance around the bases like an adolescent deer exploring a field that is untouched by man and the horrors that they can unleash. I would just like to thank Peacock for picking up this incredible movie and letting me experience joy that I haven’t felt since the day I met my second wife at Twin Peaks. If the directors are reading this I just have two simple words for you and they are, Thank you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/29/25 Full Review Audience Member This was in the "family"movie section and not at all a family flick. Talking about affairs, cheating on his wife and how his best friend is banging his wife. Literally not even necessary. So disappointing viewing with my 3 kids and husband. Some language was unnecessary also. They were coaching a little league team and could of potentially been a cute, family comedy but took a turn and we had to shut it down. Understand there isn't a rating but everything about this suggests it's okay for appropriate age children and it's sadly should not be in the family category.
