      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Beneath the Planet of the Apes delivers more action than its predecessor -- unfortunately, at the expense of the social subtext that elevates the franchise's best entries.

Nathan W Let me start by saying that there were parts of this I liked. But as a whole, it was quite the drop in quality from the last one. The story was not very interesting and some parts felt like they were just padding the runtime. The best parts of the original, Charlton Heston and the apes, were barely in the movie. It did still touch on many geopolitical issues of the day. A misguided war and those who oppose it... Genocide disguised as a "Holy War"... And weapons of mass destruction as instruments of peace. It also had some very large and complicated set pieces that I thought were stunning. This film started out promising and the potential for greatness was there. Unfortunately... What it turned into felt liked a rushed and poorly executed sequel, designed to cash in on the success of its predecessor. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review F I The last of the really good ape's movies. The next one made no sense. I have this one on Blu ray. Enjoyed it. Too bad Roddy McDowell couldn't be in it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Joshua H What is this movie, it's soo weird and not the direction I thought it would it go it goes in a completely different direction and I was so baffled it builds of nothing from the first movie. I don't even know if I liked the movie I'm just baffled but this definitely was wasn't what I wanted from a planet of the apes sequel. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Pedro Henrique C Bad, I think I don't really like watching films that were released years ago Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Alec B A truly bizarre sequel. While I will admit to liking the subterranean nuclear bomb worshiping mutant cult, this movie often simply repeats the beats and ideas of its predecessor which is probably the result of Heston reducing his role to a cameo here.
