Stray dog Benji doesn't need an owner, preferring to roam freely all over his friendly Texas town. He delights in hectoring the cat of a local widow (Frances Bavier), and can always rely on a kindly shopkeeper (Edgar Buchanan) for a handout. But, when two children Benji loves are kidnapped and held for ransom, the dog springs into action, taking it upon himself to foil the crooks and save the day. Along the way, he also falls in love with a beautiful Maltese named Tiffany.

Student: Jake M Benji is so sweet to see, in fact, Benji falls in love with Tiffany, a dog that resembles the 2004 Benji. Benji was a successful Oscar nominated canine of all time in my opinion. I give this movie a 100 out of 100 due to celebrating 50 years of Benji starring in his first film as of 2024. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Melissa N I SOBBED ITS WRITTEN SO WELL OH MY GOD I CRIED SEVERAL TIMES😭😭 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review Michael B. J The acting isn't the best, and the movie is, undoubtedly, uneven. But it's a fun and heart-warming movie that children can enjoy. And adults, for that matter. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/26/23 Full Review Audience Member It's Benji the dog's first feature film! I just discovered this famous canine and he has a few films under his name it turns out This one debuted back in 1974 and made over $45 million directed by Joe Camp who would also go on to do 'For the Love of Benji, and 'Benji the Hunted' Even the theme song was nominated for an Oscar For this little dogs first outing he's a loner with no master He prefers to go around a Texas town making friends with the local townsfolk Things change when he witnesses two children he befriends being kidnapped for ransom while in the meantime he falls in love with a Maltese named Tiffany It's up to Benji to foil the bad guys' scheme and save the day The filmmakers succeed here with filming from the ground up capturing the dog's point of view and the low angles It was actually shot four to 18 inches above the ground, and the filmmakers had to create custom tripods and dollies to capture that perspective A film that's short, easy to follow, and kids will adore every second of this lovable little pooch Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/14/22 Full Review Audience Member It's Benji the dog's first feature film!
