A documentary which asks "What is Cinema?" and immediately answers a "dream"--and it doesn't get much better than that. It has very little to say in terms of politics or sociology, and nothing at all in terms of economy. It thinks much more in terms of psychology and aesthetics, but even then only vaguely, impressionistically (so, subjectively, unconsciously, mystifyingly). Apparently the director makes Oscar montage sequences, and that's exactly how this plays out: as a feature-length Oscar montage sequence.

This wasn't as good as I was hoping for. It is a massive topic for a documentary, and tries to cram it into 83mins. On top of that, there's a large focus on Avant-garde cinema which has no interest for me. There are some good interviews, Lynch and Leigh stood out. There a lot of good clips, but they seem scattered and without purpose. Worth a watch for film buffs, but don't expect to learn a lot about cinema.
