Audience Member Best Geezer: Best Geezer is a delightful British indie comedy bursting with charm and wit. Directed by James Smith and co-written with Caroline Spence, the film follows three Essex blokes—Billy, Neil, and Dave—who, fed up with their uninspiring corporate video gigs, decide to make their own “geezer movie.” What follows is a journey filled with chaos, humour, and heart as they chase their unlikely dream. Darren Tassell shines as Neil, bringing depth and sincerity to the group’s rough-and-tumble dynamic. Ryan Enever and Philip Andrew Rogers perfectly complement him, and the supporting cast is a treasure trove of eccentric characters, each adding a unique flair. The film’s setting, Canvey Island, is richly depicted, lending authenticity to the trio’s small-town ambitions. The film’s tone strikes a balance between heartwarming comedy and absurdist fun, reminiscent of Guy Ritchie’s early works but infused with a gentler, more optimistic energy. Smith’s direction is sharp, using clever framing and timing to maximise the laughs. For a micro-budget production, the film’s creativity and passion are undeniable, proving you don’t need a big budget to tell a big-hearted story. Best Geezer is a love letter to dreamers, brimming with British humour and an underdog spirit. If you’re a fan of films like Snatch, Ted Lasso, or indie gems like American Movie, this is a must-watch. A wonderful celebration of ambition, friendship, and the joy of filmmaking. Verdict: A heartwarming and hilarious indie gem, full of charm and spirit.
