David Fear Rolling Stone It is, hands down, the best Japanese horror movie in decades, and quite possibly the single best horror movie you’ll see this year, period. Jun 16, 2025 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety The thinly veiled commentary on aspects of modern Japanese society may fly over offshore viewers’ heads streaming on Shudder, but genre fans will appreciate the bizarre story’s sinister, twisty progress. Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Zachary Lee RogerEbert.com The type of unsettling, high-concept horror film that knows exactly what it wants to be and executes it with unforgiving verve. Rated: 3/4 Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Phil Walsh Geek Vibes Nation Best Wishes To All is unlikely to garner a cult following, but it reinforces the rewarding nature of horror films. Even a misguided film can spark a flame that captures the imagination and offers a look into society's nightmares. Rated: 5.5/10 Jul 14, 2025 Full Review Julian Singleton Cinapse At its core, Best Wishes to All is a film that doesn’t just induce dread, but also evokes a crucial, timely anger. Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Erik Childress Movie Madness Podcast The setup draws us in and explodes its secrets in a terrific centerpiece sequence only to stall on its extremes and the exploration of its particular emotional pursuit that goes no further than a particular episode of Friends. Hugo S A compassionate girl leaves Tokyo to visit her grandparents in the countryside. Upon her arrival, she becomes aware of the disturbing behaviour of the elderly couple. The strange occurrences reveal the terrifying source of her family's happiness, challenging the young girl's sanity and perception of reality. "Best Wishes To All" is a dark and satirical view on the cost of happiness, reminding us how contentment strongly depends on the exploitation of those who are in a vulnerable position — a perverse kind of happiness. The story uses symbolic and conceptual imagery to pass its social commentary. Despite some of its excessive weirdness, the movie is an interesting piece of artsy and unsettling filmmaking. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/12/25 Full Review Diet Dr. Paul . Super unique and incredibly surprising! This is why I love Asian genre films, second only to those from Australia. Just remember, if your friends or family offer your some of their homemade miso… say no! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review Logan L The allegory around which Best Wishes To All revolves is both an interesting, if dark, one and a prominent one. Some of the weirder scenes feel a little forced, and the execution of the premise leaves something to be desired, but this is still one of the better Japanese films in a while. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/28/25 Full Review Erica C Huh?? Didn’t get it at all. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Stuart R I just became exhausted and over it. 🍀 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/20/25 Full Review prawnda s the premise has potential, but the pacing is all over the place and it's kind of a bore to sit through. i was really surprised this was right around 90 minutes because it feels like hours. the allegory becomes obvious very fast, and then it just drags on and on without much of any purpose, and cant seem to figure out where to put the climax. if someone made a fan edit and trimmed it down to like 50 or 60 minutes and rearranged some scenes it would be much better, but i can't see anyone being into the story enough to make that fan edit. it's definitely a flop, but it at least has nice scenery.
