David Fear Rolling Stone It is, hands down, the best Japanese horror movie in decades, and quite possibly the single best horror movie you’ll see this year, period. Jun 16, 2025 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety The thinly veiled commentary on aspects of modern Japanese society may fly over offshore viewers’ heads streaming on Shudder, but genre fans will appreciate the bizarre story’s sinister, twisty progress. Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Zachary Lee RogerEbert.com The type of unsettling, high-concept horror film that knows exactly what it wants to be and executes it with unforgiving verve. Rated: 3/4 Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Chris Joyce Movies and Munchies (YouTube) This is unsettling and creepy thanks to extremely dark themes, and can be a story that haunts, if you can get past some of the forced story elements. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 20, 2025 Full Review Cheryl Eddy io9.com Best Wishes to All is decidedly bleak; instead of leaning into jump scares, it gets under your skin in more philosophical but no less dreadful ways. Jun 20, 2025 Full Review Elliott Collins Movie Files The allegorical elements felt uneven, and strange moments just seemed forced. I will praise the film's unsettling atmosphere and Kotone's captivating performance, but everything else didn’t connect with me... Rated: 2/5 Jun 18, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Erica C Huh?? Didn’t get it at all. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Stuart R I just became exhausted and over it. 🍀 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/20/25 Full Review prawnda s the premise has potential, but the pacing is all over the place and it's kind of a bore to sit through. i was really surprised this was right around 90 minutes because it feels like hours. the allegory becomes obvious very fast, and then it just drags on and on without much of any purpose, and cant seem to figure out where to put the climax. if someone made a fan edit and trimmed it down to like 50 or 60 minutes and rearranged some scenes it would be much better, but i can't see anyone being into the story enough to make that fan edit. it's definitely a flop, but it at least has nice scenery. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/25 Full Review Matt L The writing felt like Kafka under the boot of modern life, and I'm not even from Japan (Canadian here). I will watch anything Yuta Shimotsu creates going forward. Well done. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Robin C “Best Wishes to All” A young woman, on break from university, goes home to visit her grandparents, But, grandma and granddad behave very oddly indeed and the woman soon learns there is a frightening family secret that will affect her, too, in “Best Wishes to All.” J-horror films (or any horror movies) are not my cup of tea. But, being a guy who loves movies, I will take on about anything. With “Best Wishes to All” I was a bit stretched with the horrific family past that the returning-home student had put out of her childhood memories. It involves an ominous door, very strange behavior by grandma and granddad, a captive man with eyes and mouth sewn shut and the young woman’s father who treats it all as normal with a “Nobody told you?.” Sophomore helmer and scribe Yuta Shimotsu follows up her 2023 horror short film and, description-wise, sounds the same.. Here, the horror is more of the creepy than scary kind with grunting grandparents who fall into trances and the young woman only getting ambiguous questions from them like “Are you happy, now?” No matter what the genre, I prefer straightforward, linear storytelling and “Best Wishes” is not a linear story. But, for horror fans, especially J-horror, there is likely something to see here. But, not for me.
