Blu B It's sooooo boring. The editing and pacing is terrible and everything else isn't good. The direction is terrible half the time and at best basic the rest. Like there is tons of production value in this and has a epic story across generations across a family empire and yet it's so boring to look at. No camera movement, never any close ups just the most basic point the camera where everything is type of stuff. Than the acting my god it feels like either people aren't trying, emotionless, or sleepwalking through this. No one really has any chemistry. The music is so sappy and dreary and doesn't help things at all. My god I swear it's the same violin orchestra track and I wish it would just stop. The out of order storytelling also really doesn't do anything to help, isn't clear why it's done that way, and makes things so difficult to follow. Than on top of that it jumps around between Duvall, Jones, and Young/Old Olivier and it's so difficult to follow on top of being bored out of your mind. This reminds me of films like Bloodline and the Last Tycoon but mixed with Bobby Deerfield. And that's not a good thing. The whole plot of making the car with the family drama, Oliviers life, the romances with Jones all never gel. There is so much pointless dragged out sex scenes in this too. They all wanna screw Jones. I will say then ending is probably the best thing but even that's just alright and it still doens't make it remotely worth sitting through 1 Hour 40 minutes to get to it. Not even cloe even if it does make everything that happened make sense. The rest is just so poorly done. Skip This. What a waste. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Audience Member Laurence Olivier trying to imitate a Midwest Tycoon must be the all time worst accent in any film ever. It is worth watching the movie just to see how incredibly bad Olivier can be. I wish I could find some kind of YouTube clip or something like that with him showing off his acting chops in the film. Incredibly bad. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Vintage 70s kitsch. A very young Tommy Lee Jones (voted best hair). Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member great story about a car manufacturer similiar to one of the big three, and subtle twists regarding the various struggles to produce a gas efficient car, better than most Tommy Lee Jones movies today Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the most plotless movies ever conceived from a novel...a Harold Robbins novel, that is. It flashes back and forth throughout the movie focusing on Laurence Olivier's character and his career. It has big stars in this movie and even that doesn't make it good enough. It does however show that the actors have great talent when it comes to acting because the end result shows up in the movie. The acting is good, the director not so much and the script is mediocre. It's one of those movies that is worth seeing for believing how bad it truly is. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Very entertaining trash, adapted from Harold Robbins' best seller, about family relations and politics in a three generation sect of automobile builders (whose cars look suspiciously like late 1970s AMCs). Still just a soap opera, but a very good one at that, with a wonderful, enegetic cast. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
