Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times The generically titled "Beyond the Night" spins out a twisty mystery that becomes more engrossing as it unfolds. But writer-director Jason Noto's drama too often proves a drearily one-note look at small-town crime, corruption and narrow-mindedness. Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter Beyond the Night boasts tense atmosphere to spare... an auspicious debut for its writer/director. Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Karl Delossantos Smash Cut Reviews It's a wholly effective and well-directed thriller. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 1, 2019 Full Review Peter Sobczynski eFilmCritic.com Gets the job done in a clean and efficient manner and those in the mood for some low-key spookiness that avoids being either too gory or too stupid are advised to give it a chance. Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Jonathan W. Hickman Daily Film Fix ...a kind of modern, religious narrative that knowingly understands that people of faith can endorse sophisticated, mature stories. Like "First Reformed," "Beyond the Night" provokes the viewer to think deeply about where faith fits in. Rated: 8/10 Jan 11, 2019 Full Review Michelle Swope Dread Central Beyond the Night is an enthralling thriller with a unique supernatural twist that is slightly flawed by missing pieces to the mystery at the center of the film. nick s Very nicely directed for the most part, with solid acting and scenes given time to breathe. I would have preferred a little more variety in pacing and aesthetic though. The theme of the movie could have been setup a little more clearly at the outset. That would have helped to get the audience more invested because the first half hour just felt like backstory. Some of the character interactions started to feel a little more homebrew Indy near the end. Paticularly the gang standoff scenes. That aside, this was not a bad effort & worth a watch. I quite liked the authentic portrayal of the boy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/23 Full Review ronald h "Beyond the Night" maintains my faith in small indie films. The story moves along nicely, and the performances are sincere and convincing. The Pennsylvania town setting is evocative. If you grew up in a small northern town, you'll find it familiar. There is a mystery, and there's also a supernatural twist. I've never been good at figuring out mysteries, but the Chekov's Gun in this movie was apparent pretty early on, even to me. No matter. The plot was engaging enough to hold my interest. The suspense builds slowly and surely. There's a feeling of investment among the cast members that you don't always see in big Hollywood blockbuster films. Definitely worth a watch. I don’t wanna come at a child actor, but I didn’t really like the kid tbh . 2.9 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/08/20 Full Review Audience Member Awesome movie..definite must see..great directing and acting!
