As a boy, Bobby Darin (Kevin Spacey) nearly died from rheumatic fever. While it left him with a weakened heart, it didn't weaken his desire to become the most popular singer in the country. Knowing that he's living on borrowed time, Bobby works nonstop to conquer the pop and jazz worlds with hits like "Splish Splash" and "Mack the Knife." But as the '60s come into full swing, Bobby sees his style of singing fall out of favor, and his marriage to actress Sandra Dee (Kate Bosworth) suffer.

Many people under 40 may not even remember Bobby Darin, let alone know about his remarkable life story. Beyond the Sea may rectify that problem and stand as a wonderful tribute to an amazing talent who left us all too soon.

[Beyond the Sea is] about a man; a man who only wanted to be remembered as a human being and a great performer. And it's a film that may just garner an Oscar nod for another great performer, Kevin Spacey.

This is a reasonably well made film but the plot/story is just so depressing and the main character is distinctly unlikeable. Its interesting I suppose to see what happened but its far from a gripping or engrossing watch, I'd say. Kevin Spacey (the least said about him the better) plays a rather spoilt, vain man with some decent associates, who have to put up with his strops. Bob Hoskins and John Goodman give decent performances and Kate Bosworth is ok as his other half, Sandra Dee. Its an ok watch but not especially memorable and I wouldn't particularly recommend it as such, no.

"Beyond The Sea" played on the big screen went to Arc Light opening week instantly loved it, soundtrack awesome it was like watching & listening to the legendary Bobby Darin amazing how spot on Kevin Spacey vocals and mannerisms are, great movie highly recommend!
