As a boy, Bobby Darin (Kevin Spacey) nearly died from rheumatic fever. While it left him with a weakened heart, it didn't weaken his desire to become the most popular singer in the country. Knowing that he's living on borrowed time, Bobby works nonstop to conquer the pop and jazz worlds with hits like "Splish Splash" and "Mack the Knife." But as the '60s come into full swing, Bobby sees his style of singing fall out of favor, and his marriage to actress Sandra Dee (Kate Bosworth) suffer.

Kevin Spacey's bio of singer Bobby Darin is either a fearless piece of showmanship or an embarrassing vanity project, according to critics.

Many people under 40 may not even remember Bobby Darin, let alone know about his remarkable life story. Beyond the Sea may rectify that problem and stand as a wonderful tribute to an amazing talent who left us all too soon. Go to Full Review

[Beyond the Sea is] about a man; a man who only wanted to be remembered as a human being and a great performer. And it's a film that may just garner an Oscar nod for another great performer, Kevin Spacey. Go to Full Review

Beyond the Sea ranks among the worst films of its sub-subgenre because its director/star only seems interested in making the film to exploit his remarkable physical resemblance to the title character. Go to Full Review

Dan S Nov 26 I thought this movie was totally enjoyable and the music was great. Spacey did a great job singing and acting although he was WAY taller than Darren. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I thought the plot of the story, with the whole kid thing popping in here and there, was confusing and kind of weird. But I enjoyed it and have on occasion, recommended it! See more Grammzie 0 May 22 Spacey did a disservice to Bobby Darin in this movie. He's far too old to have been portraying Darin; Spacey was already older than Darin was when he died. Spacey used this opportunity to show off, nothing more. So he can sing and dance, he's no Bobby Darin by a long shot. See more May 15 Good Movie- Bio Pic. Spacey's always awesome in pretty much anything he does. I didn't know much about Darin and now will look into him closer. I'm gonna keep it as most bio pic's, if they are worth making a movie of are probably worth keeping in your collection. It's not gonna win any Oscars of course but it's worth your time. See more Chanel C 10/16/2024 I love this movie honestly and i thought it was a very well done biopic unlike some others out there. Must Watch actually See more Tyler S @tylerking24 03/20/2024 Not bad. Some cringy moments every now and then but it was a nice way to tell Bobby Darin's story. I really enjoyed how the story was actually told. See more phil o 06/29/2023 Really expected more out of this one. A large amount of stereotypes jam packed into one episode. Ending is wack too.
