Audience Member I simply do not think this movie is targeted to anyone who doesn't understand Chinese Northerners humour. Can't blame the critics for giving lower ratings. I have seen this film with my families for many times and we were always laughing so hard each time. However, I do see the point of it being slow on the development. The director's future film is worth checking out: they are fast-paced and I really enjoyed the acting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member a twisted farce i liked it Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Very entertaining, but without a meaningful story behind. I got to hang out with him and others in the crew when they filmed it in Beijing in the summer of 2001. Fun times! Empire Magazine Rated: 2/5 May 2, 2003 Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle By American standards, the satire is about 50 years behind the times, but even accounting for cultural differences, the comedy is limp and the storytelling so inept as to provoke amazement.
