Amiable slackers Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) are once again roped into a fantastical adventure when De Nomolos (Joss Ackland), a villain from the future, sends evil robot duplicates of the two lads to terminate and replace them. The robot doubles actually succeed in killing Bill and Ted, but the two are determined to escape the afterlife, challenging the Grim Reaper (William Sadler) to a series of games in order to return to the land of the living.

It uses the Terminator franchise as a great jumping point for the shenanigans that create the momentum of the film, but it also tackles popular culture depictions of heaven and hell in counterintuitive ways that are not always played for laughs.

Having an actual bad guy changes the dynamic to something less fun and more serious... but the inclusion of Death as a wild card provides a new too-serious foil for Bill and Ted to happily torment.

There are a lot of problems in this sequel. Certain subplots drag on for a long while, scenes tend to overstay their welcome, and character decisions feel a bit off. I could be a result of the different director.

Synopsis
