Clarence Tsui The Hollywood Reporter Birds Without Names is littered with belligerent relationships, beautiful scoundrels and bad sex. What makes the film stand out from the crowd, however, is actress Yu Aoi's against-type performance. Jun 20, 2018 Full Review Pieter-Jan Van Haecke Psychocinematography Bird Without Names is an amazing romance-drama narrative. It is due to its effective narrative structure and the amazing acting-performances by Sadao Abe and Yu Aoi. Jan 26, 2023 Full Review Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse Although ailed by the common faults of recent Japanese movies (including a somewhat far-fetched script), "Birds Without Names" includes more than enough elements to erase any negative aspects Dec 1, 2019 Full Review Harris Dang easternKicks.com Birds Without Names is a great piece of work from director Kazuya Shiraishi, that not only succeeds as a great romantic drama but as an actors showcase for all involved, especially Yu Aoi, who gives her best performance yet. Rated: 4/5 Nov 1, 2018 Full Review James Marsh South China Morning Post The film presents a boldly nihilistic world view without anyone to root for, yet it does so with impressive craft and commitment. Rated: 3/5 Jun 10, 2018 Full Review Kaori Shoji Japan Times Aoi is impressive as the poisonous Towako but it's Abe who pulls the story along with his small frame and dog-like abjection. The content may be objectionable, but the performances are strong. Rated: 4/5 Oct 26, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Heroine is not especially likeable as she goes through life making people as miserable as she is and falling for unsuitable men despite having a loyal, if uncouth, boyfriend. I saw this as part of the Japanese film festival and very much enjoyed it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
