John Anderson indieWire No one deserves what happens to them in "Black Mountain Side," but as the deer-head deity would tell you, no one ever said it all had to make sense. Rated: C+ Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Sarah Gopaul Digital Journal The key to making a relatively low-budget movie is an exceptional script and competent casting director. This picture benefits with a considerable measure of both. Oct 21, 2020 Full Review Rob Hunter Film School Rejects A beautifully-shot, creepy love letter to John Carpenter's The Thing that finds its own identity amid the paranoia and bloodletting. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Deirdre Crimmins Film Thrills Black Mountain Side... is a great surprise. Aug 21, 2018 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh PopMatters ....the tone is inconsistent, the plot meandering, and the whole film is just way too long. Rated: 4/10 Aug 1, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

Joel P Well, that was a waste of time. Chain smoking, beer drinking, porn loving, so-called “archeologists” (more like construction workers) become unhinged in the Great White North. Nothing memorable worth mentioning. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/05/24 Full Review Tom L Well-crafted eco/cosmic horror film that creates a slowly advancing sense of dread. A little slow getting started, but the writing is good with believable characters. There are a few confusing plot points but in general the element of the weird is effective. It’s never clear whether the characters are all suffering from a parasite or disease that their excavation has unearthed, or whether there actually is a malign cosmic entity menacing them. The open ended question and the bleak ending make for a dark but potent conclusion. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Melanie D I couldn't stop laughing every time the deer thing was talking, it was like when I first heard Tom Hardy's Bane talk, it just doesn't fit and is absolutely hilarious. Took me right out of the "horror" element. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review John M Poorly done , not a good story waste of time Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review Jack S This one concerns some arctic researchers who discover an ancient, virulent bacteria that, as explained by one of them: will turn them all into “octopus/squid” creatures, which unfortunately results in some extravagantly gruesome sequences. There’s even a few comments on the nature of being and reality from a hallucinatory—and hilariously silly—stuffed stag (I kid you not)! The cast is universally awful—it’s difficult to care about any of their characters. This is one of those horror films where the viewer can appreciate when the cast members finally begin to get offed in mercifully rapid succession, if only that it signals that this ordeal is nearly at an end! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review jwcdood Critics 80% [They were doin' lottsa dope THAT night...!!!] The only redeeming feature of this flick is the genuine smirck you have on your face because you couldn't help but realize how stupid YOU are for watching it. Give it a try (double dare ya)...! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
