Blades in the Darkness follows the story of four friends with diverging ambitions. Three are driven young entrepreneurs smuggling cash into Tirana, Albania, with plans to transform a forgotten war-era bunker on the outskirts of the city into a trendy new restaurant. The fourth, however, is a desperate man willing to do whatever it takes to settle a dangerous debt with a ruthless local mafia boss. As the group is hunted one by one, the sawmill's chilling history begins to unravel, revealing a twisted tale of violence, vengeance, and madness. With no escape and nowhere to hide, the friends must confront their deepest fears and piece together the truth before they become the next victims.

This is a crime thriller combined with a slasher movie. The crime thriller side of the story drags, but the slasher part is fun, mostly thanks to a villain with an interesting look and backstory. Read my full review on Creepy Catalog.

Beautiful locations, lots of blood, and a great villain you can’t help but love until the very end. A true European film that strongly recalls the great Lucio Fulci. Absolutely a must-watch!

Maybe not everyone will grasp the drama hidden behind this slasher: the description of what lies beneath the horror surface is a very subtle critique of today's Albanian society. But enjoy it for what it is—a slasher with a true killer to love!

Synopsis

Blades in the Darkness follows the story of four friends with diverging ambitions.
