Anton Bitel Little White Lies It is such a lysergic collision of high art and low that its very outmodedness has now become a paradoxical part of its timeless appeal - and from such heady heights, the only way could be down for the slasher genre that Bava's film helped model. g j Viewed from a modern lens the pacing of this film doesn't lend itself much to contemporary viewing, and the acting feels pretty flat too. Its admittedly stylistically ahead of the curve though. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/18/23 Full Review zaika - My favourite Italian Giallo film. The film is an absolute underrated masterpiece with more colours than a acid trip. It features girls at a modelling home where a menacing masked killer with the standard Gialli inventory, and overall, like RT said, it's an absolute must-see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/24/23 Full Review William D The cinematography is beautiful and impeccable, especially in its use of colour. On the other hand, the story feels like a wonderful blend of a horror film and an Agatha Christie novel. The result is an engaging tale that doesn't let the audience breathe. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review Jack S Stylish direction and visuals, along with an effective musical score are pluses in this picturesque but superficial crime thriller. However, there's little intrigue or suspense in the barely-there plot, and there's not one character interesting or distinctive enough to care about. Also, what's with all those tedious, pointless scenes of victim's bodies being arduously dragged across rooms and up staircases? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/23 Full Review Judy S Blood and Black Lace was arguably the first violent giallo. While Bava's film The Girl Who Knew Too Much, released only a year prior, had elements that would shape the giallo, Blood and Black Lace is the first to include sadistic death scenes that would become the foundation for giallos from after its release to today. It introduced the masked and black-gloved killer to the world, complete with "stalk and slash" sequences. With vibrant lighting and colors, a jazzy score by Carlo Rustichelli and a few twists thrown in at the end for good measure, this is arguably Bava's best film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review marco b A fashion designer's show is plagued by someone killing off her staff and models. Wonderfully shot.
